Urgent Help Needed - Coil Relocation Problems

Fellas - I've inherited a few problems when carrying out my coil relocation and I need help.

I have follwed Redhorses' instructions and wired the bike up on the new plate according to those instructions but, as we all know, I may not have followed them correctly but I did mark all the wires and re-attach them accordingly. Here are the main problems with the bike:

    1. Oil light permanently on but plenty of oil in sump - stays on all the time.
    2. Reserve tank lamp does not operate when disconnecting the dry break.
    3. Bike fires up ok but is not running right - stalls and backfires a lot more than before. Once stalled makes a funny "whirring" noise continually until ignition switched off.

I've attached a few pictures to show what I've done. If there are any glaring mistakes can you let me know or if you have any idea what the problems could be again, let me know. I'll give it a couple of days before I call the auto electrician out.

Needless to say I'm very disappointed and we're supposed to be having a national bike meet in a couple of weeks.

    Cheers. Fiery.[V]

    1. That's the Engine light that's on. There is no oil light on the Warrior
    2. Unless you were on reserve when you pulled your tank there isn't a problem. I've ridden around without my gas tank and not have the lamp come on.
    3. Sounds like you might have swapped a connector or wires. The enclosed photo is marked-up with respect to your installation.
The Grey Plug is from/for the Front Intake APS. Check that the vacuum hose for this sensor terminates adjacent to the front throttle body.
Also, check the primary coil wiring. The positive terminal is Blk/Red.....Good Luck

No mate - it just goes through its start up routine as normal.

Alan H - I'll check out my wiring config and let you know. Thanks for marking that up for me though.

    Alan,

The bike is wired up exactly as you have it (I must have got it right first time [;)]), but the engine light is still on and won't go out. I can't see anything wrong with the looms, no broken wires and all looks good. She even fires up with no problems but just doesn't seem to be running healthily. I have removed the velocity stacks - would this make a big difference in engine running?

Bloody annoying I can tell you.

    Fiery.

If you have an engine light you will have a problem code(s). Tell us what the problem code #'s are & we can sort it out.

I replied in our forum but I'll say it again here. Check that the spade coil wires are actually sitting over the spades on the coils and not beside the rubber boot and the connector. If this is the case the bike will fire and dle but under revs and load, not enough power is getting across to juice the spark up to capacity. So unplug the spade connectors on the front of the coils one by one and make sure that they are seated properly. This is why you have the engine light on and no code #.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

Thanks Hans - I'll check everything tomorrow and let you all know how it pans out.

Other problem you can encounter according to a thread I read: the Atmospheric pressure sensor (black plug) and the front cyl APS (black plug) can plug in to each other. Make sure you have them plugged into the correct sensor.

+1 what Warrior1oz said. Symptoms sound alot like a coil/ignition issue....

I had the same issue when i installed mine. Check engine light and codes 14 & 26 i had the sensor plugs on the wrong sensors. Once corrected the bike ran normal and light went out.

Well, I swapped the sensor plugs around and got the engine light to go off BUT only while the ignition was still on. Once I started the bike and switched her off again the same damn light and engine codes are back. I take the plugs out, put them back in and the light goes out again. Start her up and switch off. The light and codes are back. What the hell is going on? Can anyone help with this? is one of the vacuum hoses not connected correctly underneath? Shall I swap them over? Confused and don't know what to do.

    Cheers. Fiery.

Make sure the intake air pressure sensor is connected properly, if not the engine light will stay on.
