    Belt replacment

I broke my stock belt up near Julian last night and North County Yamaha wants $430 for the OEM replacment. The two from Phats are between $115 and $150. If the aftermarket belts are inferior, then I don't want them. But something tels me they are probably an upgrade if not equal to the OEM belt. FYI I have the high compretion piston upgrade.

Phat Performance has two differnt brand drive belts. Dayco and Gates. Which is better?

Get the Gates Poly Chain belt...it has Kevlar fibers and is a stronger belt than the Dayco

Yamaha is proud of it's belt, and it's the inferior one. Get the Gates Polychain, as stated above. Even with overnight or 2 day delivery, it's a far better deal and belt, than the yami.

I dont know about Gates--but I will say the Dayco belt sucks--They are too soft--my Dayco Panther belt slipped from day one---went back to OEM ----$275.oo from seattle sports Plaza--No tax from Washington---Gates Polychain is highly recomended though--Good luck...

    Re: Belt replacment

I never ran a Gates, but I did run the Dayco for over 3 years with "No Issues" "No Slipping, No Breakage" It comes down to proper belt alignment and the correct belt tension. If you are slipping you need to learn how to properly set your belt tension, same goes for belt breakage. Its all about tension and alignment. Besides the obviously damaged belt. A belt should last well over 30,000 miles if not more.

if you dont want to wait, you can get a 1 1/8 belt, 130 tooth from your local harley dealer as well. I found mine there for around 170 bux, I couldnt wait for an order.
