    Swing arm bearings too big

Got a new arm from Cycle Image, with bearings, and I can't get the later to fit. I saw one post say put them in freezer, which is where they are as we speak. Any other methods?

Youre going to have to have someone press them in for you. Or you need a press.

Take them to a trust worthy shop.........somethings are better to let the experts do, they would have a press. I screwed up twice in the past, that was enough for me.

Make sure where the bearings seat in the swingarm is clean and free of chroming crude. Yes freeze the bearings and you can also carefully heat the swing arm(hair dryer). Spray a little WD40 into the swingarm. Align the bearing straight. Used a socket just small enough to slide into the swingarm and place it squarely over the bearing and gently tap it in until the bearing seats.
PM me if you have any questions.

Man, how long would it take to heat the swingarm with a hair dryer hot enough to expand the metal? You would probably need something a little hotter than that. I don't know about CI chrome, but I have heated my RC caps with a propane torch and never discolored them.

DOH, That was suppose to be heat gun[:o)]. If you clean the arm, freeze the bearings, and use WD40 that will be enough. I had no problem when I did it. Now let me go dry my hair with a propane torch [:D].

In lieu of a press or if you have difficulty a length of 5/16" dia all thread rod can be used to draw the needle brgs into the arm using a proper socket, fender washers and nuts.

What am I the only one who uses a "Bearing Driver Tool Set'"?.....picked a set up on EBay for $25.00 and a heavy rubber mallet works great!

Make sure you polish out the seating area for the swingarm bearings. Use a fine wet sand paper, do it by hand. That will usally clean up the area for proper seating of your bearings.

Re: Swing arm bearings too big

IMO, this is not the proper tool for installing ball beraings (BB) [:0] It's a seal driver and brg driver for the cup of a tapered brg (outer race)
BB's should be pressed on the outer race which this tool wont do.
Will work for the swingarm & hub needle brg's but is to large to fully seat the brg's
Any stray plating can be removed from the brg bores with a fine Dremel buff as shown. It's important to clean this area up to the parent metal and nothing more. Premature brg failure will result from over pressed brg's in plated bores.
    Finishing Abrasive Buffs - 180 & 280 grit (2 Pack)

Well Alan, IMHO it works Great!....I have driven many, bearings with this specific tool and not one single issue or damaged bearing since I started using it. I even use it on my oil seals to seat them properly and have not damaged one of those to date.
