    Your experience is appreciated

After reading the posts on a 33 tooth front pulley, I thought I knew what to order. The local Yamaha dealer said they will install the new pulley at no charge if I supply it while they are doing the coil recall. Great, so I asked the service dept. to switch me to the parts dept. Now the confusion begins, no one at the dealership seemed to know what to order. So according to what I have read I asked them to price out a Raod Star 33 tooth pulley. They agve me a price of $116.00 and then asked which one I was talkin about. According to them, Yamaha has changed the Road Star pulley and belt to the same size as the Warrior. Can anyone clarify this for me.

You are correct, in 2003 or 2004 Yamaha made the pulley the same width as the roadstar pulley, but it is still a 33 tooth for the stock pulley.

Are you not by chance looking for a 31 tooth pully?

I am looking for the 33 tooth pulley. This will give me lower rpms at cruising speed. I have reached for 5th gear many times to find I am already in 5th. I know many want the 31 tooth which is great for jumping off to a fast start.

    Edited:
gman....the PN for the front Road* 33T pulley is 1999~2003 - PULLEY, BELT: 4WM-17651-00-00
You will need to machine the pulley to fit on the Warrior as it is made for 1 1/2" wide belt used on the earlier Road*. The machining is req'd to clear the middleshaft case of the Warrior (1/8"). There is lots of press on this subject where other members use the stock width belt. Here is some reading mat'l on the subject in different flavors [;)]

Now the '04' & > Road* does use the narrower 1 1/8" belt and i believe it has 33T? but there has never been anything posted on the forum regarding this pulley being used on the Warrior that i am aware of, but i've been wrong before.

You should be able to pickup the earlier 33T pulley new from the dealer for $70.00 and then pay a shop $35.00~$50.00 to machine it with a carbide cutter on a lathe Cake and you'll still be ahead of the game.

I was very lucky and won mine back in Oct '06' on Ebay for $36.75 landed and in like new condition [:)]
Before & After: 33T Road* Pulley w/inside flange removed and .125" stock removal to clear middleshaft case

I agree AlanH should be member of the month. I just received the rear pulley from him and he sent me an e-mail with his link to pics and instructions
