Help ASAP (Problem solved thanks)

Took my bike in for the TPD recall yesterday and the dealer called me and said the bike was giving him a fit. He said that the throttle position is not showing wide open the PC3 have anything to do with this?

I can't see how it would....The PCIII would have to get throttle position from the TPS. Weird.

I can feel your pain...I was so nervous when I took my bike in, I would have freaked and went down there to see the problem if it was me.

ditto to what condrons said. they didin't have any issues with having to deal with the PCIII. bike runs so much better since the tps recall work has been done

The calculation for setting up the closed position of the TPS doesn't involve anything more than using an ohm meter (ohms x 1).

Connections are made directly to the TPS terminals with the harness plug disconnected and key off!

Like Alan said; The TPS is adjusted with the plug OFF so there is No way that the PC3 can effect the reading if they are adjusting per the service manual. At Idle position it should be adjusted to 13%-15% of the total resistance. Total resistance should be 4K-6K ohms. WOT should also be 4K-6K ohms.

It is my understanding from observing the TPS is set by using the digital (diag) callup on the tach....the TPS has a total of 18 different increments. Mine was set by observing the diag readings..... no ohm meter. Diag 01, throttle fully closed (15-20), fully open (95-100).

Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic.

THE TPS WILL NOT BE SET UP ACCURATELY IF THE DIAGNOSTIC MODE OF THE ECU IS USED FOR THE PROCEDURE [:0] and that's all i have to say about that!

If your bike is running perfectly fine based on your scenario then consider yourself lucky or the procedure outlined in the factory manual is more forgiving than discussed

!] I first tried that myself.... using some small aligator clips... never could get a stable reading. Perhaps calculations were wrong....not really proficient with a meter.[

I took my bike in for the TPS recall, rode it some, and then I had to take her back. They replaced the TPS for the second time. She ran great after the first time i took her in, but she doesn't seem to be running as well now. I may have to pull my plugs and check them. I have aftermarket coils and they didn't push the plug wires all the way back in to the coils! I hate taking my bike to the dealership.....

After the TPS is calibrated to the throttle position with an ohmmeter it would be a good idea to verify the converted value (what the stock ECU thinks it is) in DIAG mode, and re-set the span in the PC3. This ensures maximum range or resistance sweep from Idle to WOT.

FYI, my new replacement TPS had no effect on the Throttle Body Angle readings, before & after, from the ECU in the diag mode for both full open (93) and closed (15).

Got my resistance readings within range.... thanks, but when I check the diag mode for the sweep I can't reach the higher number.... 15 - 88 is all. The yammi techs adjustment read 17 -88 without the meter.

There was a previous post on this stating that the TPS had to be re-synced to the PC111 for full open and full closed throttle after the recall. My Dealer was not aware of this but he will allow me to use his laptop to follow the posted instructions. I'll do that as 'soon' as it warms up. -18f near here last night!!!

Got the bike back yesterday and rode it home. I live 38 miles from the nearest dealer and it was a lovely 75 degrees yesterday so as bad as I hated to be riding in that kind of weather knowing that my friends up north are snowed in I did it anyway. Thanks for all your help! He did what fcwarrior said and the bike is running great. I hit it hard a couple of times 110-120 and experienced little or no back firing.
