    72 tooth pulley

I have just bought a 72 tooth pulley and I have a 33 on the front, is it worth my while to get a 2 tooth longer belt or more, or keep the old one.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Cheers

    Re: 72 tooth pulley

72T driven by 33T will bring you back to stock ratio of 70T & 32T. You're going to lose the benefit of the 33T less RPM at highway speeds [:(]
If you plan on running a 240 wide tire kit in the future you'll need a longer belt else the wheel will rub.
I suspect with this new combination that the stock wheel is very close to the swing arm [:0]

So that means I would need to get a 68 tooth to max the bennifit on highway speeds?
I haven't fitted it up yet, but I would suspect that you are right and it would be too close to the swing arm for comfort.
I'll have a look on EBay for a 68 and that should give me better H/way cruising?

That sucks but if you do go 68 you will need a longer belt..

Well on a brighter note the pulley was only 5 bucks!

    Proposed 68t+33t=101t
Stock 70t+32t=102t so the stock belt should be fine as it's longer [;)]

I think a 72 on a stock drive pulley will be your best bet... AND it may have the added benefit of regulating your speedo to actually READ CORRECTLY!
Personally I think I would like the larger front pulley, but that 135 MPH wall is an intriguing thing to smash through, too!

Ohiomike shouldn't that be shorter cause it's a smaller pulley so it will move back further ?

Xenarchi, yeah can't complain about 5 bucks, one of my mates will want it instead of a 33 front.

AlanH, so the bike should cruise better with the 101t set up ?

    Re: 72 tooth pulley

The speed of the rear wheel increases as the ratio between the front & rear pulley decrease.

    • 72 / 32 = 2.250 = -2.86% more torque

    • 70 / 32 = 2.188 = 0.00% Stock

    • 72 / 33 = 2.182 = 0.26%

    • 68 / 32 = 2.125 = 2.86%

    • 70 / 33 = 2.121 = 3.03%

    • 68 / 33 = 2.061 = 5.80%
