    Run/Turn Combo Rear Signal???

I DID a moderate search on this one, yet could not find an answer.

I¡¯d like to turn my stock rear turn signals into a running/turn combo signals, just like the front stock ones.
I guess I have to replace the single point female socket inside the signal housing with a double points one, plus some wiring and double points bulbs.

    Is that can be done?
    Anyone tried??

    Pleasant and safe riding!!!
    =======================================================

    PS
My local law DOSE permit this.

Hey, I'm not even in state at the moment.

What you are trying to do is illegal. You are not allowed to have running lights on your rear turn signals.

If you are going to do it, you may be able to replace the rear turn signals with a new set of front ones. If you do this the cops are going to give you a ticket.

I'm guessing thats why you couldnt find anything in the search for it.

    Hope this helps,
    Dave

Not in Nevada. Check your local laws before messing with turn signals, brake, tail, and headlights.

    NRS 486.271 Turn signals.

    1. Every motorcycle manufactured after January 1, 1973, which is sold or offered for sale and which is intended to be operated upon the highways of this State shall be equipped with electric turn signal lamps.

    2. Such lamps shall be located on the front and rear and shall indicate an intention to turn by flashing lights in the direction toward which the turn is to be made.

    3. The lamps showing to the front shall be mounted on the same level and as widely spaced laterally as practicable and, when signaling, shall emit white or amber light, or any shade of light between white and amber.

    4. The lamps showing to the rear shall be mounted on the same level and as widely spaced laterally as practicable, and, when signaling, shall emit red or amber light, or any shade of light between red and amber.

I agree.... Though its been illegal in every state I have lived in (5 total).

Check your local and state laws and if it allows it, by all means do it. Looks like if you live in Nevada, youre good to go. Of course, its also the same state that legalized prostitution [:D]. I'm just messing with you thor....LOL!

I think you can use them for running lights in the rear if they are red but not yellow, That is just a general rule of thumb for most all states but not an absolute.
    Ballbearings! It;s all about Ballbearings.

HAHAHAHA Good call! But I have to drive an hour to get to the hooker houses. So that's what friends have told me[:D] Actually the motorcycle laws in Nevada are really quite vague. Before I did all the fender elimination I read all about lwas concerning lights etc. My hook up would probably be illegal in a lot of states.

Wow, you learn something new every day. I just got stationed in Mississippi not even a year ago and I just got around to looking up the state law regarding motorcycle turn signals in Mississippi. Turns out you dont even need them here. Theyre not required. Go figure.

Here is a good reference from the AMA, that you might find helpful:
    http://home.ama-cycle.org/amaccess/laws/result.asp?state=MS

Its defaulted to Mississippi, but you can select any state.

It should be safer for the biker and nearby cars for having additional rear running lights!!!

Gotta research Dave[:D] I was in charge of Security Investigations for Mirage Resorts for 11 years. Have to know what the laws are in case you ever get pulled over and cited for something BS.

    Re: Run/Turn Combo Rear Signal???

You should be able to add running light to the rear of your bike without any problems from the law i do not know what the guys are talking about. you want to add not remove as long as they are red you will be fine. Honda gold wings have a lot of marker lights so why cant we???

any way as far as doing it a nice way would be to do it with an LED bulb this way you can leave the single filiment bulb socket inplace being that you are using a single filiment bulb you will need to take a trip to radio shack pick up a pack of 6 amp diodes and the some resistors the diodes work like check valves this way u can run the parking lights and singles into the one tail light bulb wire as far as resistors i can't really tell ya what value to get cause you will need to play around with that depending on what bulbs you get. the resistor reduces the power of the parking light circuit making the brake/turn the dominant singnal

hope this helps i got all the parts and bulbs kicking around if you want me to build you a unit let me know

    Re: Run/Turn Combo Rear Signal???

    Thanks Brad!!!

    Couple of question, thou.
Do diodes and resistors go BEFORE the signal housing or in-between the female socket and LED lights?
    And, what's parking light?
I'd love if u can help out!!!
Can u also make rear signals blink when braking?
I once saw a bike with a running light that blinked when braking(of course the stop light came on too!!!), it was way cool and felt safer for traffic behind the bike.
I've wanting something like below link quite a while.

Have installed this set up on several bikes. Works in the stock housing. Biggest PITA is running the additional wires through the housing mountings.
Should be just what your looking for, it really lights up the back of the bike.
Its an LED cluster that sourrounds the original bulb.

I had these on at one point. They function as running lights AND turn signals in red or amber:

    J&P still carries them.

Are the blinker part of the leds yellow or do they even have blinkers? My lens are clear.

Here's another option i used to eliminate the stock license light & turn signals after installing the Yami inner fender elim kit and to help increase the visibility of the bike!
