    Left Side Clean-Up

I am about to replace the left side scoop with a Kuryakyn horn cover for a Harley. I see that the original bracket for the seft side scoop is secured to both jugs. Will I need to replace this with a tie bar, or is this just a convienient place for Yamaha to secure to.

left side isnt secure to the jugs, just to the motor mount, are you talking about the right side, where the airbox is?

if you are talking about the right side, you can either fab a piece to go from jug to jug, or you can do somthing like the Barons kit does and bolts to somthing between the jugs(dont have it so dont know what that somthing is)

Thanks DFW, but I am talking left side. I looked again, and the bracket that supports the day-break and the fuel regulator and the scoop covers it, is not only bolted to the jugs but also to the upper frame. I think I`ll make a bracket with the same securing points, or modify the original bracket.

Jason, Aren't you going to share your Rudolph mod with him? Sorry, couldn't resist bustin' your balls just a little. :-)

    Smooth,
I put a HD horn cover on my left side. I just drilled through the bracket that is there.

I think Megawatt has the cover you are talking about on his right side...If I'm guessing correctly which cover you have.

I took a cutoff wheel and just cut the bottom off of that bracket. Seems like BillH had a how-to on his website..

Thanks~ I guess I had it in my mind that I wanted to keep that bracket original, but I could always find one if I needed it.

no Tim, i am trying to let that "mod" die, but thanks for stirring up such painful memories! Smooth, the bracket you are talking about that connects to the frame and jugs is the motor mount, when you remove the left side assembly and relocate your fuel lines under your tank(or a new cover), you can grind off the thin tab welded onto the engine mounting bracket. some have even ground dang near the whole bracket off, i really dont recommend that approach unless you can do somthing like put in welds on the motormount to maintain the integrety of that part.

Well, I guess I would call that an engine mount. That clears that inquiry up. Thanks

    Re: Left Side Clean-Up

One of my early mods after doing the AIS was to fabricate an angle bracket for the FPR because i didn't want to hack-up the OEM factory bracket. The left side ran naked for nearly (2) seasons waiting for me to install a HD Chrome Horn Wing Cover which never happened (my gallery still says in process) [:(]
This past winter the FPR was relocated under the tank and i have recently re-installed the factory AIS bracket and left factory scoop [;)]
