    Cam cover installation

Dumb question but I am going to ask it anyway. I bought a ball milled cam cover for my 05. Do I have to drain the oil to install it?

    Re: Cam cover installation

We just went through this topic a couple of posts ago. No, there is nothing behind the cam cover except a couple of wires that YOU DO NOT want to pinch. Took mine off this morning but have to do some modifications to make it fit.

Nope!!!!! No oil is back there!! Did you get the compression release cover also?? if not you will need it also.

When you do install it be VERY careful with the wires that are there. The new cam cover has a VERY small cut out for the wires, if you pinch one you will get an error code.

    No Oil or Gasket!
But you will need to mod the OE compression release unless you're using the Insert Cover.
Search the site and there is lots of info on this subject.

I have mine without the compression release cover -- don't need it. I like it without. Close up photo in my gallery -- I went with ball milled and "102".

ROTRHED, Not to burst your bubble but you've got the Billet Insert that fits on the stock cover! LOL
The Billet Cam Cover will interfere with the OE compression release but can be remedied by using a Dremel tool to modify the compression release where it's not visible.

You can use to stock CRC you just have to grind it a little.

    Re: Cam cover installation

metrickkruzer, did you have to use washers between the CRC and engine case to prevent the cover from restricting the decompression solenoid travel? This has been a common problem with this part on our site creating starting problems. Including jpeg of my mod to new part. I couldn't use washers because of the cover clearance with V&H mufflers.

I didn't have to use any washers. Mine fit perfectly.
