    Timing Cover Removal

Is there a trick on removing the timing cover? I am putting on a Yamaha Timing Cover Insert and I can't seem to get it off after I remove the fasteners. Sorry if it is a dumb question.

    Re: Timing Cover Removal

Batzman, i have most of the covers....what is the TIMING COVER?
Left side or right side? Part Number will help!
Yamaha uses (2) DOWEL pins for locations on most covers and on some they are backed up with Rubber Donuts for sound dampening.
Sometimes it's necessary to use plastic malley prudently to release.

Very front left cover next to the clutch cover. It normally has a small brushed Yamaha emblem on it with the outer piece being obviously black. I tried a rubber mallet (glently) and no luck thus far.

    Re: Timing Cover Removal

    Brian,I had same problem.
There is a rubber molded donut under cover that is sticking to engine case. This cover is ornimental only. There are two dowel pins as well as six retaining screws. Very gently try prying with screw driver on bottom of cover. Tape screw driver or wrap in rag. Also, use plastic mallet striking gently in various quadrants to release cover.
Should be able to get hand under cover near kick stand interlock switch. Probably can pop cover from bottom now that I've seen it apart!

Word of caution if you're using the Yamaha cover with soc hd screws that mounts from the front. The two retaining screws that hold the cover are to long and need to be ground otherwise you will get a false tightening when remounting assembly and you will fingerprint the engine case!
Also, the other four soc hd screws were not threaded completely and stuck out further than the mounting screws. These screws are for looks only. I then went on a mission to find proper die to chase threads.
Like all Yamaha accessories I guess we can all write a dissertation regarding the assembly after the fact!

    Re: Timing Cover Removal

That did the trick. Thank you! I now added some more bling to my ride.

    Thank you again.

I'm gonna put the polished timing cover with matching cam cover on myself, along with the generator cover, alternator cover, clutch cover insert and Yammi front pulley cover case set that has the spinning nude pulley....bling...bling that came in today from Richie. I'm stoked! This info will come in handy, and just in time.

    Re: Timing Cover Removal

metrickkruzer, check all the Yamaha billet parts for high spots before tightening. I have had to clean up high spots with Dremel tool. Most of the CNC chrome billet accessories replace castings and don't have the proper clearances to seat flat on the mating engine cases because of the lack of machining and in some cases the additional chrome thickness IMHO.

Your scaring me AlanH. I hope I didn't get any of that type of crap. I've had really good luck with their stuff so far. Hope my luck continues.

    Re: Timing Cover Removal

Guess I have been lucking out as well with the Yami bling parts, both new and purchased from members here. My recent timing cover addition fit perfectly, looks great. Did have to gently pry the cover off though. Have some more bling on the way from Reza. This doggone chrome virus!!!!!! Last year I laughed at all the "crap" being added by guys. And now, here I am.....beware....be very wary, YOU ARE NOT IMMUNE!!!!!!!
