How to remove oil tank cover?

Undid the one bolt and the front of the cover feels like it is a rubber grommet, but I don't want to pull too hard, I'm afraid I'll break something. What is the secret to taking this cover off?

Re: How to remove oil tank cover?

John, there are two rubber grommets in the front of the cover as you stated spaced near vertically. The secret is to pull the cover in the same position it lies on the bike. The grommet pins are perpendicular to the frame and mounted on the Oil Tank.

    Edited 6/18/08 Credit to Bruce59:
Spraying the grommets & pins with any type of lubrication such as soapy water or silicone will facilitate the removal of the cover.

Pull the cover straight out gripping from the front with hands located above & below the grommet bracket. Do not try to hinge the cover. PULL STRAIGHT OUT.   I've had mine off earlier this year for chroming.

If you bend even slightly you'll create a dimple in the center where the prongs are welded onto the backside. Follow AlanH's advise.
