2 vs. 3 front brake lines

Hi, I'm looking at replacing my front brake lines. I see that there is a 2 line kit, or a 3 line kit. I have always been under the impression that two lines would be better than three. But this will add an ugly line crossing under the headlight housing. Anyone with any thoughts.

I think NO brake lines are the best! [;)]

    Welcome to the forum.

If the connectors are fitted properly you should not have any problems. IMHO neat/tidy is the way to go. I have had more problems sealing leaks at the banjo bolts than with line connections.

Your call, whatever you are most comfortable with.

The TWO line gives you two lines all the way up to the handlebars.
The THREE line has one line from the bars to the tree, then splits in two.
It depends if you want ugly at the bars or ugly at the tree.

I like the three lines because I didn't want the front master cylinder standing out anymore than it is. It really looks like a big ugly blog with two banjo bolts bolted to it!

+1, cleaner near the MC area makes a big difference to me...[8D]Although I have read that the 2-line system that is so common on sportbikes is supposed to technically work better.....

2 lines from the MC is the way all sport bikes are. they use a longer bolt that extends to the length of both lines with 2 holes drilled for each. i personally believe that it does work better with a 2 line setup, you don't have to push the fluid to a T before splitting it in a totally opposite direction. more efficient. it will be more bulk at the top though. do you want clean or efficiency?

Internal lines down the fork tubes I think. That would be a good mod for me, since I have mine zip tied to the right turn signal after I put my risers on last year.

I saw a picture on here last week of one line running down to the right caliber and a cross over line to the left caliber. I think this is the way most sport bikes are doing it now. It look real clean, I wish I had that picture to show you. It is on members bike.

I've ben running the 2 line for almost 5 years. Think it looks better than the 1 into 2 lines. Works well.

It's on Chuck Brazeau's bike (Brazeau Racing). Here are some pics.

Re: 2 vs. 3 front brake lines

I made my lines from parts I purchased from the Indianapolis Goodridge store. The lines and the throttle cables look like they're coming from everywhere, but I've since grouped them together and ran them down next to the headlight so it looks a lot cleaner. As far as 2 lines instead of 3, Goodridge said a two individual lines from the reservoir tothe caliperswill give a better and more even response than splitting the lines, or jumping from one caliper to the other. that's why I've done it this way. the only thing I'd change is I'd get the black banjos and black bolts.

Re: 2 vs. 3 front brake lines

I have the 3-pc Galfer frt line because i prefer the look and IMO it's cleaner @ the master cylinder (MC).

    My .02 regarding lines:
Technically, in hydraulics, the shorter the lines (smaller volume) the less compressability of fluid and hence a firmer lever/pedal at the MC when operated.

Fluid flows to the point of least resistance just like electricity, so the 2-line set-up isn't any better, probably worse [:0]

The 3-pc line is more expensive to manufacture but does have two more connections that could be a source of a leak.

Anyway, they all work... the Galfer 3-pc is a bit combersome to mount but will give you the firmest feel because it is shorter and fabricated from small diameter SS hose. The Rusell 3-pc is next inline.
