    Powder coating rims?

I have been thinking of powder coating my rims black since my DIY 240 mod last year.  I know that I have had some small chips to my powder coated controls most likely from rocks kicking up off the road.  My question is.....Is a powder coated wheel a durable coating?  How is it with scratching?  I don't want them to look like crap in a year. I am torn because I love the looks of the bikes that have the black rims and think I would look awesome with my blacked out parts, but I also like the current rims for my bike with the brushed stripes and other brushed parts on the bike.  Ok, What does everyone else think?    Black or Stock?

I'm torn as well I cant decide on black rims or chrome ones. I have had parts on my ATV powdercoated with two coats of color and two coats of clear and it has held up suprisingly well considering I bash it. I personally think that yours bike would look good with black wheels. Also what is a "Do it yourself 240"?

I am planning a Rim Powder Coat this winter. I think it will hold up fine. I have had other part PC'd and have had no problems with them chipping or anything.

lee03,  The DIY 240 is taking the mod on myself instead of paying to have it all done.  Althought I did have to pay to have the wheel widened.  Here is the link to my post so you can check iy out.  There are also tons of others who had posted info on it too.

I guess I should have said that I was wondering how to do it. I looked through that thread but am still wondering how it is done and if it is safe.

Powder coated rims will hold up fine.  Just make sure that you have UV protection in the powder coat unless you want your rims to chalk.  You do realize that all the cars running around with hub caps have powder coated wheels under them do you?  All ATV, and gold carts have powder coated rims unless they are chrome or billet.  On a side note, powder coat will hold up much better than a painted wheel, its just harder to touch up.

I have had mine powder coated for  4 years now and they show very little wear. They hold up much better than chrome

Powdercoat is great on rims and especially frames. Just make sure to buy your tires at the place that changes them incase they chip the edges. Most shops will only gaurentee against damage to your rims if you buy the tires from them.
