    Clear alternatives Update...11/23/09

I just received yesterday a clear alternatives tail light. (I had ordered it before I saw the negative posts for them) Well wouldnt ya know it I hooked it up I have running lights blinkers but NO brake lights... I tried alot of things took the wires out of the connector and tested them separatly they worked when put back on the bike everything except brake lights... My other light workd just fine when going back and forth, I just put my other unit back on... I am going to send it back get my money back, but I really want a intagrated tail light... Where can I get one? I saw some on ebay but they where over priced... What to do...

Ok got my 2nd light in today went to the shop plugged it in to the stock plug hit the brake and nothing, here is the weird part I was trying to see if the connection was good for the brake light which is the green one touched it with my test light (which was grounded I did not know) hit the light with it like that and the brake light worked took the test light off the brake light went off... that should have sctually blew a fuse, it didnt. I have no slue whats going on there can not be 2 in a row thats bad, can there? Any help would be nice. I guess I will just have to send them both back. I really wanted the intagrated light but I can not be with out my bike for more than a weekend. i do not want to do the M.D. Wright because you have to cut the light and glue it or something I really dont know but I can not do that. Just feeling you guys in if you have a suggestion please fell free to give it to me... Thanks

Where did you get it? I was going to get one from Dennis Kirk. I was unaware of negative feedback on them. Are they known for this kind of problem?

Well I have heard good and bad... I bought mine from custom dynamics. I am going to call them in the morning to see about a replacement of just getting my money back. I liked theres because it was a plug an play for the most part... hook up the turn signals and your pretty much done... I do not know what to do at this point... I'll figure it out tomorrow...

    Re: Clear alternatives Problem...

I had the same problem.  Just use your old tail/brake light and wire in some led strips and put them on top of the tail light and use them for turn signals.  Thats how I solved that little problem.

There's a knowledgebase post named 'popular mods' at the top of the Technical Forum, and it houses links provided by many members over the years.  If you look there under Lights you'll find a lot of info fast.

This is the info from Lights that has to do with an Integrated Tail Light:

I was looking at that the other night... Very informative post, I saved it so I can get to it quick. I am going to call them today to see what they can do, I would wrather not send my old tail light to M.D. Wright that would put me down for a week, with the bike my only ride that wouldn't be an option.

    Re: Clear alternatives Problem...

Jaboyd2u .... if you want the BEST of the BEST it's always been MD Wright since i've been a member... i believe they have a core program too!

Here's an earlier thread from this year that might be of some interest: M.D. Wright question?

    AlanH:

MD Wright was the pioneer of the Integrated Tail Light System way back when and is still considered the Rolls-Royce for the Warrior. Nothing compares to it and you made the right choice. It's also plug-n-play and guaranteed for life (PnP) Yes Big Smile  The following is taken off their site.

What is the LED colors, brightness and locations?
We use the stock LED's, in the stock positions so it remains the same brightness as it from the factory. That way, it will not looked cobbled together. Another company installs many yellow LED's in the circuit. That sounds like a great idea, until you look at it. You can tell right away that it is not factory. The LED tail lights have Fresnell lenses, which means that they are designed for the LED's to be in exact locations for the light to refract in such a way that they are very visible. Yes, the other is visible, but it clearly shows up between the Fresnel sections, and looks out of place. Besides, many vehicles use red turn signals. With our Integrator, when the turn signal is on, it will flash from all the way off to fully bright - that way it is very visible and noticable.

Here's an early post by Darkstar from the past:

The stock taillight shown below. You can see how much better it is than the CA unit!
