This is a good news bad news story, well more bad than good. I was leaving a gas station onto a 4 lane road and taking a left. In front of me was a guy I have ridden with a lot so non verbal communication is good. I think I gave a little much gas and caught up to him at the turning lane. There was no traffic so we did not have to use the turning lane. Well I went to tap the brakes and the next thing I know there is a bike laying on my leg and a mirror on the road next to me. Figure I was doing between 5 and 10 mph when I went down. Still not sure how the front tire locked, there was no loose gravel where I went down and the road was dry. Few ideas I have is, with the tempature changes the tire pressure was off, I picked up something oily on the tire at the gas station, third the tire is due to be replaced so it has poor grip now. Aftermath is I will need a new tank, mirror, and if I decide to keep it replace the AIS cover. I have not had a chance to look it over any closer due to the injury I sustained. I friend rode it home for me that day and he thinks it is fine. I ended up breaking 3 bones in my ankle. The company I work for takes good care of us the 6 weeks of short term disability are not an issue. Only been a week now and getting mightly tired of it already. Do not have pics of bike yet but do have xrays of my foot pre and post surgery. They are not in a standard format so have not been able to post them or get them converted yet. Got the bill for the surgery today, $20,800, that does not include the hospital stay, emergency room care, or ambilance ride. There will be some more after care costs as I get back on my feet also. If I did not have good insurance I would be totally screwed. As it stands the bike insurance will take a lot of the med costs and my normal health insurance the remainder. My deductable was already paid for the year. The good of it is I am already thinking of new mods I never gave any thought to in the past.
