Low & Mean Reaper Fender Install

Anyone install the L&M Reaper fender on an '05? I got mine yesterday and tried to install it, but the back end is rubbing the tire. I tried opening up the holes where it attaches to the bike a bit per L&M's suggestions, but that has not helped.

The first link posted by Alan is mine. My bike is an 02 and the back corners rubbed when installed with no shims. I stuck 1/4 in washers behind the fender to get it out away from the tire. Start with the rear bolts and get it shimmed out to where it is even in the back. Then make sure to check the front, I needed 3 washers on the pipe side up front and had to get a longer bolt to accomodate. Most likley you will have shims behind every mount, but with a little tinkering I got mine to sit dead even, took it on a good hard test run with no issues. If you need any assistance shoot me a p.m. I'll see if I can get one of my co-workers to take a pic of it installed today at work, as I have no camera, or no cell phone for that matter.

Even with all mounts shimmed there is a small ammount of waggle down towards the bottom, but they never touched once...even at 100 mph

Thanks Alan for posting the low & mean posts. I never knew that the front wheel was off centered.I went out and measured the wheel and mine is a little less than an 1/8 inch offset to the left side.I would like to know why yamaha could not center the wheels, but I bet I will not get any kind of answer from them.

Damn.  A fender built specifically for the bike should not require this much shimming!

Alan & Dano, Thanks for the advice. I put some shims in and it pulled the back free, just took it for a test ride and no issues. However when I got back and tried to install the lower fork guards they are rubbing against the fender. This is okay for now, but once I have it painted I am going to have to notch them to keep them away from the fender. Agree with Oldman, a custom built fender for the bike should not require that much work to install.

Yeah, forgot to mention, fork guards are a no go.

@ Oldman... Thats what I thought too, but they did have a hell of a time making them from the sound of it, I'm gonna see if I can come up with a black sleeve instead of using stainless washers for asthetic purposes, the only place they show is where I had to use 3.

Yes I agree too .... i suggest you send a PM to Low and Mean of your authored post and url so that they can respond if they aren't aware of the fitting problem.

There should be a disclaimer by L&M if the fork guards can't be used Sad .. if you reviewed the photos in their post there aren't any guards installed on either version!

Alan, I e-mailed them yesterday about the install problem, they got back to me suggesting I increase the size of the holes in the fender to make it fit better. One other thing they don't mention prior to ordering the fender is that the brackets that hold the brake lines & side reflectors to the fender no longer work. Oh well, people have been telling me to get rid of those reflectors forever, so maybe that was a side benefit.

Re: Low & Mean Reaper Fender Install

Hey guys, We did have a tough time with this fender, but the end result was the fender did fit perfectly on the bike. If your having issues there's a couple of things to check. If the fender is pulling to one side. We first suggest sliding the fender in place without the bolts in, look and see if it's pulling to one side or the other. If the fender is off set to one side this could be from the mounting brackets pushing on the back side of the fender. The only area that should be touching the fender is around the bolt holes. Now sometimes the bolt hole area could be a little to thickand cause an issue to. So if your shimming your fender, you probably just need to sand the backside of the fender to off set it correctly.

We check fitted this fender on three different warriors, one of them had the front wheel on backwards which screwed us up in the begining. We know these fenders are straight, we check everyone, sometimes there's slight differences between model years.

If you bought one of our fender and your having issues, please don't hesistate to contact us 928-255-0230 it's a great fender and you love it when you get it on.

I'm impressed by the L&M response.  That's a sign of a top knotch vendor.
