    cell phone (update)

Hey guys I am so frustrated because I want a blackberry. Here is the problem my contract doesn't expire until May and if I upgrade now it will cost me about  425.00 for a phone. I been on the phone with Sprint trying to get a better deal and they finally offer me and additional 75.00 credit bring my total credit to 150. Got a call from Sprint today saying that I was a premier customer which maked me eligble for 150 buck per year instead of having to wait 2 years for the same credit. I thought about buying out the contract for about 90 bucks and going to Verison. Verison was not able to match my current plan and price.  A comparable verison plan cost 40.00 more per month. I guess that I will have to wait for my blackberry. Super Angry

Well I finally got my Blackberry from Sprint. I called to update my service and I accidentally push 4 instead of 3. When I did a representative got on the phone and offered me the phone for 49.00 long story short I got the phone.

If you ever go to Verizon "in this area" you will never use another carrier. have managed phones in two companies in Knoxville and NOBODY has as good coverage and dependability. My wifes I phone drops calls non-stop and she can't even make a call from the house. I have a BB Storm from Verizon and am happy with it.

Check the Verizon web site from time to time for deals. The store wanted 75.00 to replace a broken phone. I got a better one for free on line with next day delivery that was also free.

No Sprint service here but Verizon works OK.

Get an I phone they are the bomb diggity!Big Smile  ARE you going to use this bberry for business?   or just Personal use ?  If it's just mainly for personal I would for sure get the I phone!   GOOD LUCK!   Isn't it amazing that all these cell phone companies will do anything and everythig to get a new customer but won't do doodley squat for an existing one!Sad

Well,if your day started with strippers, then we are tied. Otherwise, I'm winning!

From my experiences with blackberry (Corporate IT) They are big pains in the but. They may be nice and "TRENDY" but they just take twice as much work to get to work right with email and calendars and such. Just get a smart phone and be done with it. Just my two cents.

Just a heads up, the iPhone isn't the bomb...it has some good features and there are billions of apps for it, but it's not that great. the camera is only 1.3 MP....the Samsungs and Nokia's are 5 MP...no flash for the camera, no video function with the 3g version(dunno about the 3GS though as Rogers locked me into a silly 3 year contract and I have to fork over a kidney and leg if I want to break the contract)The audio for the MP3 player is crap...flat, dull and weak, no matter what EQ you add to it.  The screen doesn't tilt as fast as its advertised and sometimes doesn't at all. It sometimes has wonky lock ups and freezes. The battery life is crap...it has to be charged on a daily basis with minimal usage. I've had mine for a year now...I think sometimes I should've gotten the comparable Samsung or Nokia N95...even the HTC phones are becoming more popular too.

    HA! Nice one. : )

I agree with these guys. Consider skipping the blackberry. I looked into them thoroughly when I upgraded last time and decided against them. I ended up with a nice smart phone with Verizon (been with them for 15 years). Verizon does indeed have the best coverage in my opinion. I've driven through some pretty remote areas of the SouthWest and never lose coverage. No issues in the city either.

Have you tried getting verizon to price match your other plan.  I would think they would give you a similar deal to get a new customer on a 2 year contract.

I'm not a huge motorola fan but the new droid is coming out (or is just out) maybe it's worth checking out.

2006 Suzuki VStrom 1000 (GREAT deal forced trade)
2007 Yamaha FJR AE 1300 (FJR: Freakin Japanese Rocket)

Well I've had Bell and Telus BBs and I've never had issues with coverage or reliability. As a business phone you couldn't give me anything else. My contacts data base, calendar and e mail all work flawlessly. If you're looking for a toy there's lots of choices. For a work phone it's the only one for me.

You may want to check Ebay. Look for the phone you want and make sure it is compatible with sprint.

    Re: cell phone

I have the iPhone 3GS and can't confirm anything of what you mention. Performance, Battery and Camera improved big time against the first versions. Only alternative for me would be an Android phone (but I get one at work now).

    Re: cell phone

There are so many folks out there that post rants about the iPhone who obviously have not spent any time trying to find solutions - they suffer from the martyr syndrome.

If you have had your iPhone for a year then you probably have the 3G... Here are some tips...

For better battery life, turn OFF location services - the GPS antenna - when not needed. This sucks an enormous amount of power.

Next, set the iPhone to check mail only once per hour. Any time you access the mail app it automatically checks the mail anyhow. Or, sign up for MobileMe and have it push all your mail in real time. Having the iPhone check every 15 minutes when there is nothing there with multiple accounts runs down the battery.

Set the brightness to 30% and use Auto Adjust. brighter is blinding and sucks up battery. Set the phone to lock automatically after 1 or 2 minutes so the screen shuts off.

These simple tips will give the average user of a 3G iphone about 2 full days of use on a single charge.

The original (2G/Edge) and 3G iPhone have 2mp camera's with autofocus. The new 3GS has a 3mp camera that also does video. More megapixels does not necessairily make a better camera though. Here is a key tip - the camera takes the picture when you REMOVE your finger from the button, so learn to apply your finger, steady the shot, and then carefully remove the finger to keep things in focus. I have taken some great pictures with the iPhone. The next tip is that the images are 2mp (1600x1200), but if you send an email from the phone directly, it downsizes them to 640x480 to save space and send faster and use less of your Canadian allotted bandwith per month. To access the full size image, you have to download them to your computer. Also, when adding images to a library (at least on a Mac) that gets transfered to the iPhone, these images are also downsized to 640x480 to save space and improve transfer speed.

I have no problems with the iPhone or and iPod audio...

And if you think battery life is bad, imagine how much a flash sucks down...
