Nicely done!   It looks like it would make opening the gas cap kinda difficult.   That's not a factory safety sticker still on the tank is it?

Looks like a functional location, you're able to watch the road with a preview.  How's the vibration factor?  Were you able to  use the stock gas cap bolts?

I made a camera mount for the bars and it vibrated beyond video comprehension.

had the same thought ..how to fix a sat-nav ment for a car...didn't want it high on the bars, but down as you've shown not so easy without blocking the view of the dials...so i went for the new givi bracket ment for other items, and used the motohouse waterproof bag to fix to it...have the usb feed into bag...easy to remove...works ok...can't hear it but that's ok

this is a good idea but I was just using the spare parts (pieces of metal, screws, and paint) laying around in my garage that hasnt been used for over a year. another thing is that the way I have my mount located and angled i dont have any problems seeing any of the dials. the only dial i do have a problem seeing is the tach because im a little short. but otherwise i didnt spend any money making my bracket.

Very creative, had not even thought of using the gas cap for mounting anything.  I think you have a keeper and are the first one for this mod.

I know the voices aren't real, but they do have some good ideas.

So functionally you insert the gas key, unlock, remove the key, then flip the lid up.  Sweet.  Are those two bolts actually fastening anything between the cap and the tank, or are they just-for-looks bolts?  Is there any opportunity for a seal leak due to bolt torque differences (seal not being held flat)?

I dont know why but for some reason the key will not come out of the gas cap after opening it. Also i have had no problems with any leaks but im not sure whether they hold anything or it they are just for looks. But about the seal not being held flat..........the seal is still being held flat because the bolts held the top ring down and the only difference from the way it was originally installed and the way I have it with the bracket is that the bolt is longer and holds more stuff on. It still holds the seal flat. If that makes any sense. Im not no mechanic or anything im just an 18yr old tryin to do stuff above his league so i may be wrong but its the way I see it from what I have learned from various things, what the best mechanic I know has told me, and what my dad has told me(my dad has been working on bikes all his life and now owns a dealership).

Cool, thanks, it does look sweet for sure!  You've pioneered new territory for us.  Next thing you know Tomba and Tomasa will both have LED big screen TV's bolted to their tanks! Devil

One or two of the guys over the years have modified their gas cap lock so the key can be removed.  I don't recall who they were.

I hope the author of this won't mind me referring you.  Its an excellent photo series of the gap cap assembly, or should I say dis-assembly.  From this, it appears the bolts are threaded into the tank, not simply pinching the top ring to thebottom ring, and since they are anchored you are correct the seal between the fuel tank steel and the underside of the bottom ring should stay sealed.
