Thanks, yes, fersure, +1 if its an aftermarket front pulley its a bit different! Smile

I suppose there's two ways to 'read' the post and I guess I read the first three sentences as the 'what-to-do-to-get-started' portion.  In any case, it was good advice to center the belt on the pulleys.  My original belt is still in great shape - knock-on-chrome!  Maybe its because a little 'out' on the rear pulley is magnified onto the front pulley.  Since I've been doing this, it seems like the better the belt runs consistently on the front pulley, the better its running on the rear pulley too.  And its so easy to accomplish, I don't mind if its better than the spec'd tolerance requires.

    Frankenstein:

Here is how I have learned to center the wheel/belt on the pulleys:

Put the bike on a stand and put it in neutral.

Spin the wheel counter clockwise and adjust the alignment until the belt centers on the pulleys.

    Re: drive belt snaped

Are you sure that is carbon cord? I thought the Gates Polychain was Kevlar reinforced while the S&S? Gates has the carbon cords....or is this something new?

Edit : Now I see it does say S&S on your belt..maybe it isn't the Polychain?

    Re: drive belt snaped

Ok so what im getting from everybodys post's is that Gates makes the poly chain made from kevlar. But gates and S&S got together and made a belt that can hold and S&S 124cui motor. I know I can order the poly chain from Phats performance and my local HD. Can I also order the gates/s&s from the hd or where can I get it at. And the gates/s&s is stronger that the poly chain?

Yes, the S&S one should be stronger. Any bike shop that has an S&S catalogue should be able to order it. Or possibly buy online. I think  there was a link in my first post re: this belt!

Yes Im sure its the belt and  has the right part number(S&S 106-0359-130T) They list as the polychain carbon cord so mabey they use polychain in a generic way

The subject S&S/Gates X3N Carbon belt is shown here, click on the page in the top row - far right:

    http://www.sscycle.com/modules/catalog/cataloglist.php?x_catagory=11&z_catagory=%3D&x_catalog=1&z_catalog=%3D

The page someone referenced from my post last summer was indeed a Polychain.

I don't believe the X3N carbon belt is called a polychain by S&S. Is it?

    Arizona Warrior:

Odds are this is the only belt to buy now: S&S-Gates X3N Carbon Cord Drive Belt #106-0359.  Its available in HD shops.

Have a look at the service manual for belt install and set-up so it can be adjusted properly.  There's a post by Frankenstein that is in a topic listed under 'Belt' in Popular Mods that describes a great method for adjusting the belt by spinning the raised rear tire forward and backward making sure in both directions the belt stays fairly centered on the front pulley.  Hang on.  Its hard to find since its inside another conversation about belts.  This is it: http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/20285/318908.aspx#318908

Not at my local HD dealer. The sales guy was useless, he didn't even know what to look under in the parts catalogue.

After failing to find any info on the belt, he tried to tell me it didn't exist and that S&S don't make belts to fit Yamahas.

It's not hard to see why HD sales are poor.

Nick, maybe if you think about it you'll post where it can be found in the EU forum with the part# and price and the seller's contact info.  I have a feeling this will become unexpectedly handy for you gents well into the future.  IMO the S&S/Gates X3N is like an answer to a prayer GiftCake

    Tom,

What prices have you been quoted if any?

I've had a price today and expected delivery turn around of less than a week.

I'll hold off on posting details until my order goes through and I'm happy with the vendor.

    tMr:

Thanks for the help. Does anyone know the life span of a belt.

50k miles should be nothing for those belts IF they are adjusted properly.  99% of all Warrior's that I've ever seen, had their belts adjusted too tight.  And it's also no surprise that there are also so many threads about belts snapping, and front pulley bearing failures.  Somewhat loose belts are happy belts, I promise.
