    Stock Spark Plug Wire Length

I measured the length of each stock spark plug wire while installed so the dimensions are a little off.  I'm going to install the Dynatek coils in the stock location, and I want to buy Magnecor plug wires, so I have to tell them the exact lengths I want.  If someone has their stock coils on the shelf, would you please measure the plug wire overall lengths (oal) for me so I can leave mine installed for now?

Here's the estimates I came up with today:

Rear Left OAL 19" plus 4" stock plug boot = 23"

Rear Right OAL 23" plus 4" stock plug boot = 27"

Front Left OAL 11" plus 4" stock plug boot = 15"

Front Right OAL 6" plus 4" stock plug boot = 10"

If you can provide tighter length dimensions for the OAL, and/or for the distance from the exit point on the coil to the top of the spark plug boot, its appreciated.

    Thanks.

Exact length is not an issue, unless you decide to make them way longer then needed. I made my wires as short as possible.

I think he is wanting to make them as short as possible also.

    Yes, exactly.

I'm taking my coils off tonight Mike, (get better access to LCV) I'll measure the leads coil to cap. Are you going to use angled caps (as original) or new aftermarket straight caps ?

You'll need slightly longer leads if straight caps.

That's nice of you to offer but don't hassle it my friend!  The stock spark plug wires are attached to the top frame rails at several points and its a job to remove/reinstall them.  Please don't go to that extent.  For the work you are doing, you only need to unscrew the coils from the frame.  Someone out there has an uninstalled take-off set of stock coils with wires, else I'll remove mine and measure.  Anything else and I'll feel like a putz!

Good point.  Magnecor said they can mimick the stock plug boot shape reasonably well, and they also said 'not all boots are shown' in their materials.  I plan to snap a pic and send it along with dimensions to them at the time I order.  I also plan to keep the stock threaded-end spark plug terminal to avoid confusion problems later in life when buying plugs.

Here ya go AZ, since my coils are on my workbench,...lol. i used a spare piece of wire to trace them from the coil to the end of the boot, following all the curves etc. here are the measurements. i also stuck the wire into the boot until it reached where the pluch wire joins the contact that measurement is 1.25" if you need to account for that. these include the length of the boot, (subtract 1.25" to get the length from coil to the point of contact) FL 11.5" FR 9.25" RR 29" RL 26.5"
few pix form a photo album i never finished---> http://ImageEvent.com/aquakeeper/audio77

    THANK YOU MIKE!!

I'll add 2" to allow for the extra distance to reach the Dynatek coil's high voltage terminals (as opposed to the stock coil's body-entry-point).  I think it will accomodate any excess length along the frame rails, if needed.

    I really appreciate this!
