This pops up a couple times a year.
It seems to me, in this specific case and from what you posted, you should let the installing dealer fix it. They can't pay someone else to fix it, and the YES Warranty will not cover it since this is not a factory caused problem. This kind of problem typically has not had any affect on the one-year Yamaha warranty, or the YES extended warranty. If the dealer sold the bike with the exhaust installed, its their deal unless it was a used bike sold as-is but that doesn't sound like the case here. If you bought the bike, and had the dealer install the exhaust as a separate purchase (even if it was on the same day you bought the bike) then the dealer's warranty would still cover it.
The dealer employee is simply misinformed about warranty. Federal law supports aftermarket parts, and the concept that only oem factory parts, or only dealer-installed parts, are covered by vehicle warranty was made illegal years ago. You can swap to any aftermarket parts you want, and install them yourself if you want, and the factory 1-year warranty and the YES warranty will cover the bike as long as the parts are correct for the application, and the work is done properly, and the bike continues operating inside normal parameters. So if an exhaust swap changes the air:fuel ratio then any damage caused by the A:F being off is not covered by warranty. Therefore you would need to correct the A:F to match your new exhaust, such as with a tuned PC3 (etc).
Look at it this way. Let them fix the bent studs etc on the jug, and you again have their warranty on their most recent work.
BTW if it were me I'd lobby them to supply and install a new set of Cannons. They will resist but Samson won't warranty a bad install, and why go back to the trash can if you don't have to?

I have more of a question than a staight up gripe with the dealer as of yet. I recently had a Samson Cannon exhaust pipe completly break at the first bend off of the front pipe. The pipe is warrantied for 1 year, and I bought the bike new with the pipe added on in March of 2009, so warranty should be fine. I looked into Samson, but they told me the direct purchaser which was the dealer would have to return the pipe for the warranty. Fine, Fine.. I took the Samson's off, and went to put the stock back on the bike so I could still ride while dealing with this exhaust issue.. Well exhaust won't fit back on the bike correctly, the front bolts off the block are bent. The plate from the Samson that connected to the block, is bent. Issue being the dealer cranked the bolt and plate, and now I can't fit the stock exhaust back on, and now the issue as to way the pipe broke how it did so soon.. This is the second run in with the dealers work since I bought the bike in March. The first being that the dealer didn't torque the bars down enough, and while parking the bike after a ride the bars came off the triple trees..
Question being, I spoke with the dealer before and asked about the extended warranty that I bought on the bike. Dealer told me that the warranty is void once any modification from stock is done, i.e. pipes..etc.. They stated though that since they did the work, they back it and the warranty is still good. Being that i've had two major F-ups on the bike from the dealer I don't trust them one bit with my bike.. I have a great custom guy that is willing to help me with cost on some mods... How's my warranty going to hold up?? Anyone know??
Thanks..
