Congrats on all the hard work and the grades to show for it. You got me thinking about going back myself after I got laid off. My job will probably lead me nowhere so in Jan I better get started. Gotta do some soul searching to figure out what to take. Thanks for the inspiration.

Congrats Sang! I just started Paramedic school, it's GREAT! I love the classes. From what I gather you can transfer your Nursing license to an EMT-Intermediate license, just my .02. EMS is fun and if there is a per-diem service in your area you may want to look into that. I have been an EMT for 2 years now, I love the adrenaline rush of Fire/ EMS.

Fantastic news!  Stick with it!  Are you at all thinking about a specialty when you finish?  Trauma, neuro, pediatrics, etc.?

At this point I'm leaning towards Trauma.

Uh, thanks......I think. I've never served in the military (although I was a boy scout 30 years ago) and haven't failed anything in a while, but thanks.

Good for you mate!  Doing it when the kids are a bit older makes a lot of sense.  Getting torn in three directions (work, family and study) is no fun and that is before you remember that you used to ride the bike!

You don't need to.  Educating yourself and doing something useful for your fellow countrymen doesn't require shooting at anyone.

    Hey Steve,

Haven't seen this thread until now.  Congrats on the career change!!!!Yes  Sometimes those things are forced on us and we do things out of neccesity rather than choice.  Either way, it sounds like a good move for you.  I just turned 50 last week and will probably retire early from my current job in 5 years and 6 weeks.  Sometime around January 2nd or 3rd of 2015.  Not that I'm counting days or anything.Big Smile

I've been thinking about getting into the medical field after I retire and have talked with several people about the requirements for becoming an X-Ray technician.  I want to work 2, maybe 3 days a week and still have lots of time off if I want it.  Have even thought that Saturday and Sunday working 12 hour shifts at a hospital would probably provide a decent PLAYCHECK on top of my retirement.  When your retired, every day's a weekend so Sat and Sunday wouldn't bother me that much. I won't need benefits but want to have the flexibility to take time off when I feel like leaving for a few weeks at a time.  Gotta make my mind up by next fall and get the school started if I decide to go that route.  Good luck with yours.Yes

I'm going back to school - 1st semester done pg 4

Go for it, WD, it's never to late to make a change.

Well, I finished my 1st semester of school. I put a lot of time into it, but it really wasn't that bad.

My last day of finals was yesterday. For the Anatomy & Physiology lab final we had to label 100 different parts on muscle, bone, heart, skin, and cell models. I managed to get them all right but I missed 4 out of 100 on the A&P Lecture final. I was hoping to hold on to my 100% for my overall grade but missing those questions on the final dropped me to a 99.35%

As for Mircobiology, I got full credit on my disease research paper and a perfect score on the final for a total of 104% for a final grade.  I managed to keep it over 100% with extra credit and bonus questions all semester. :P

My only other class was an Intro to Nursing class which was just a short, one time a week, pass/fail course. I passed. I only had to take 3 classes this semester because of 20 year old transfer credit for 3 other classes.

Now I get two weeks off with nothing to study, but with a rather large "Honey-do" list that I've been putting off. Next semester will be a little harder with A&P II, Pharmacology, plus two Nursing courses (Assessment and Foundations) and the beginning of clinicals.

    But so far so good.

Congrats!! Great job. Looks like I may be heading back to school in January. I am just hoping to pass, let alone get 104%.
