Well said!
At this point at least with a head that is a little less foggy Matt's brother should be encouraged to get involved in and WORK a recovery program for relapse prevention. Relapse is obviously what we all "worry about" and try to prevent. But bottom line is unless the person with the addictions (ex. me with alcohol) gets involved and stays involved with a recovery program (like NA or AA or others) relapse is just a simple decision away.
Talking with others who share the same issues and are successfully in recovery today is KEY....he should get a sponsor ASAP and go to meetings.90 meetings in 90 days they say....and I know 1st hand it works.
He should be chasing recovery just as hard as he chased his drug of choice. I got up at 7:30am, and was at the local packy by 08:00 hours for my 1st 1/2 pint of the day (EVERYDAY!!!!) till the blackouts on the bike started. Today I have a sponsor, work 2 recovery programs and facilitate a 12 step study. I know I am just 1 shot away from runnin again....dam it i don't won't that to happen. Too much too loose!
I'm really hopeful for Matt's brother! and the last few replies are right on the money. he's at a critical juncture in his addictions and needs to be right on top of them or else!!!!....
Way to go Matt!, and you can tell your brother that Gary C says congrats and work hard at being sober and clean....and I mean WORK at it...
