you all might want to take a look at this

    http://www.zoombak.com/

after about a 6 month test and evaluation in various vehicles and other items, this is the screaming deal in monitoring. if you have looked at these before and thought that they were not quite ready for prime time. things have REALLY changed in the past few months, they have really gotten good. at retail (and there are deals out there), the device is about $150 (including mounting kit and power supply) and about $150 a year monitoring. it will run for about a week on it's own batteries if you leave the speed monitoring off, so if you have a kid.................i have installed this device alongside some really expensive stuff, and it holds its own.

I'll admit, i don't know too much about the technology behind LOJAK, butI wonder how easy it is to disable? If i was a thief i'd just assume everyone had one... now you gotta get an alarm to protect the lojak..LOL

I would assume they would install it under the seat etc. where you need a key to get access to it.

huh? inkjeter, what site were you looking at?

the zoombak device with install kit is only $150 at full on retail (and there are deals available, lots of them), the annual monitoring is $154 prepaid. the monitoring allows UNLIMITED tracking and uses gps and cell as opposed to requiring law enforcement intervention. the device will also notify you if it exceeds its set speed limit, goes outside of its boundry, is turned off, or has a low battery.

in reality, the devices don't do exactly the same things, but they do "overlap", on vehicle theft recovery. the zoombak is really much more geared to vehicle and asset tracking, and compeats favorably against products in the $500 to $1500 range which require monitoring often in the $50 to $100 per month range (for unlimited tracks). the zoombak is a rock'n deal for people who might have a vehicle that they want to be able to locate. have a vehicle that they would like to know if it goes out of a boundry, have a vehicle that they want to know if it exceeds a speed limit. have an asset that they want to know where it is and if it goes out of a boundry. have something that they may want to track that may not be "plugged in". and you can track the device from your cell phone. like i said, not quite the same.

i will let you all figure out some of the uses that such a device might have other than vehicle theft recovery. i will give you a few hints: kids with cars, kids with backpacks, executive vehicles, executives with briefcases, businesses with employees who are in vehicles, businesses with expensive items like off road equipment, generators, etc. horses, and my favorite BEAGLES (my beagie has a zoombak and a webcam).

if you don't want one, don't buy one, i was just throwing something that i now have a ton of hours evaluating into the conversation. yeah, we also compared all the competitors, but this one stood out in VALUE and packaging, and held its own in function

    Re: LOJACK to the Rescue

Inkjet was looking at it just as a vehicle locater like Lojack.  Lojack is a one time $900 cost where as the Zoombak has an annual $150 cost for the tracking.  The ZB will equal the LJ cost in 5 years and exceed it by $150 for every year after that assuming prices don't increase.  LJ is more cost effective for straight vehicle recovery.  The ZB is the obvious choice if you need one for other uses.

+1 that's what I'm saying, plus lo-jack beacon is linked to police cruisers for location and recovery, is this other one? or do you have to go get it?  Old Man is now my official translator, sorry but do to the recession this is now an unpaid position.Indifferent     your device is a totally different animal and should really not be considered with a lo-jack thread, its great if you want to spy on your kid, but this was about theft recovery.

    Re: LOJACK to the Rescue

Well, since I am not being paid, I'll just jump over to the other side of the fence for a minute.  I think if you report your vehicle stolen then tell the cops you have it's location that might just be a good thing.  Although, I once had a vehicle stolen in Fairbanks.  I found it and called the cops to let them know where it was.  They told me to go get it if I wanted it, they weren't going to do a damned thing since I knew where it was.  I was very happy about that.  I even said thank you!

    Re: LOJACK to the Rescue

INJECTOR has it right I manage a shopthat deals with lo-Jack regularly and they actually donate the EQ and installation to any departments that will accept them and run monthly testing and training with these departments the only problems I have with lo-Jack are they only let their own traveling techs do the installs ( and they do a crappy job, it really annoys me when we spend a lot of time making things just right and these numb nutts show up and just do the bare minimum, we generally have to gobehind them and clean up their work ) and many of the smaller departments don't participate in the training or tests and don't know how to use the EQ, also when de/re installing from one car to another they usually leave off the lo-Jack because they never use it. I'm just saying it's great in a metro area but usually useless in the more rural places.

    Re: LOJACK to the Rescue

i give up on this site

everyone just keep buyng the same old things. please don't waste your time looking at any alternatives. dont investigate new technologies, ways to do things or any of that. buy the same clothes, wear the same colors. buy bolt on stuff for your bikes so they can all look the same but with different chrome,

being rswarrior used to mean that you were willing to swim up stream. every new idea was passiontly discussed. every new product was evaluated by someone. that's gone.

have you noticed that all the technically competant people are gone or quiet these days. the true degreed engineers on this site have just given up it is not worth it. thanx to all the engineers that were here with me in the begining. you all ride safe. hopefully like me you found something new with excitement to play with.

this site used to be a place where real creativity used to go on. the various experts and engineers woulld help people out and some really creative stuff was done. olivers turbos and nitrous, my 200 front end and nitrous, rats extended front end, chucks 300 single sided swingarm,  and many others all grew from the knowledge base on this site. even the magic bong was creative to say the least i read this site for over a year before i bought my warrior. by the time i bought the warrior i had a full stage iv kit, most of a nitrous kit and a set of pipes on the dock floor. 200 miles after i bought the warrior, it was ALOT faster than stock, all with the help of those that came before me.

when the click of death and fast flash issues rose their heads, the real engineers on the site actually came to understand the REAL reasons that they were happening. others went off half baked. for those of you that don't know, fast flash is actually federal law. click of death is crazy japanese guy draining a circuit.

you all have fun building the same bikes with different chrome and keep thinking that changing the mirrors is a custom bike

    i'm out

    Re: LOJACK to the Rescue

Not sure what that is all about. I have no expierience with the unit he mentioned so I offer no comment on it. I simply offered my Limited expierience with low-Jack as I do not and have never used the system but am familiar with the hardware of the recieving EQ. Hey any of you guys remember when we could discuss different product and mod options without people getting pissed?

I think that's a response to injektor. I looked at the product and it's even listed as a personal gps locators...not a anit-theft locating device..though it could still do the same thing as the Lo-Jak it's not designed to be as proprietary as the Lo-Jak...just my 2 cents

Sounded to me like he was upset that no one sided with him...but that is just my observation.  I am not an engineer on these type things.
