Lenght needed for Galfer front brake lines?

    Hi all,

Can you tell me what is the exact length of cable lines from the reservoir to the T?
I plan to replace the stock lines with Galfer ones, but the Carlini SuperSweeps mess everything, in terms of fitting. Preferably I would like to pass the lines through current throttle guides, so they look nice together. IMO, I need a 2" extra, but I'm not sure. I measured with the tape and it looks like I would need the total length of 23".

Does anyone had Carlini SuperSweeps installed with a custom Galfer line? Let me know what is the extra lenght you added to the stock length. I think 2" should be OK, to have it passed through the little metal stays and have enough lose to don't have issues with the T being installed into stock location.

    • FYI the wire chrome guide under the top tree on the RH side is for the OEM brake hose and not the throttle cables although many owners use this guide after installing the smaller SS frt brake line depending upon the cable geometry with the new bar or risers. In some cases the guide will cause the throttle cables to stick or hang-up when the steering is turned lock to lock as is the case with my new HD risers & Clubman bar with the current throttle cable.

so they look nice together. IMO, I need a 2" extra, but I'm not sure. I measured with the tape and it looks like I would need the total length of 23".

Yes ... the Galfer Warrior std frt 3 line kit FK003D311-3 top line is 24.5" (24-1/2") long from the CL (centerline) of the banjo bolt to the end of the male protruding flare that connects to the Tee under the bottom tree!

You'll want to keep in mind that the Galfer Tee doesn't mount in the same position so look HERE

I just brought in a custom top line for my 3-pc Galfer assy last week that i purchased from Cycle Brakes @ 23" lg with a straight banjo at the master in lieu of the std angled end because it fits my needs more precisely. I ordered the hose on Fri 6/12 and received it the following Mon 6/15. No BS like some of the vendors want 2 to 3 wks.

I have the top hose in black w/o logos with the SS trim @ + 1-1/2" if you want. If interested send me an e-mail.

    • It is 26" long CL to end if that will work for you

Review my photos very carefully and for measuring i used a pc of coxial cable for my story stick running from the existing Tee through the cable guide canting the cable like a hose to the CL of the master cyl outlet. I then measured the length with a tape and double checked myself by doing it twice. You are always better off to error slightly longer with hydraulics for safety than looks!

Here's a Galfer dwg that i took off their web site and modified showing the factory special in-house 10mm male bubble end so that i received the proper part out of the gate! CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE. The std master banjo end is type B.

Re: Lenght needed for Galfer front brake lines?

Alan, great info. I performed your measuring trick with the coaxial cable. I need exactly 2.1" for Carlini's, so I will stick with 2". For reference, I ordered the part from Phat and it came to:
    FK003D311-3	Galfer 3-Line Front Brake Line Length - Warrior (02-07) [Plus 2"]	1	$129.95
    DSC-8 RSWARRIOR [FK003D311-3] 1 -$6.50
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    										Sub Total:	$123.45
    										Tax: $0.00
    										Shipping: $0.00
    										Grand Total:	$123.45

    Order Comments:
Please make sure the following information is accurate:
. Line Color - Black (Free)
. Length Change - + 2" Longer from Master Cylinder to Tee Only
. Silver Polished Fittings & Stainless Steel Bolts - Standard (Free)
    . NO LOGO on Hose

I called Cycle Brakes before but they wanted $148.00 for the same set.
If you have a chance, please post a detailed guide how to gravity bleed the front lines. Thanks a lot.

Re: Lenght needed for Galfer front brake lines?

A side note: Galfer said on their site that steel banjo bolts should be torqued from 17-20ft/lbs. I will check the Warrior specs to see if it is OK.

Idea [I] Re: Lenght needed for Galfer front brake lines?

I suggest you follow the Galfer torque specs that are supplied with their instructions included with the frt hose kit and also printed in 3 languages on the package. Any knee-jerk reactions on this bolt and you'll stretch the hollow cross drilled fastener which is shorter than the stock steel bolt because of their banjo end and you'll be calling Galfer for a replacement Sad

    • Galfer uses SS banjo bolts as a std and will not, i repeat, will not sustain the same torque as the Yamaha specs so be smart and follow Galfer's instructions which in English is 12 to 15 lb~ft so i suggest you use your fancy dancie inch pound dial indicator wrench and multiply by 12 for the conversion!
    • I would suggest you call your vendor of choice and request that they send all aluminum sealing washers in lieu of the std copper which looks crappie and stands out like a sore thumb with the chrome parts IMO.
      • Electrolysis isn't an issue here as the parts are aluminum and SS mat'ls!

My recent Galfer purchase a couple of weeks ago for the new upper frt line spec'd aluminum/silver sealing washer (LH Photo) and NO LOGO!
