    1/4 mile times

I went to Dragway 42 in ohio last night to see what my bike would run before i put some new parts on it. My 1st pass was 13.3608 @98.25mph, i did not heat up my tire and could feel it spin all through 1st gear and it was my first time to the track in 2 years. My 2nd run was 13.3372 @97.35mph i heated my tire but it still spun it was around 10pm and miosture was building up in the air so that is why ithink my tire spun. my 3rd run was 13.7427 @96.82mph but i hit neutral on my way to second gear. my biggest problem was getting my feet back on the pegs after launching the bike, i was wondering if anybody on here has tried to launch with there left foot on the peg or in 2nd gear. my bike has a cobra 2to1 slipon and churchkey bak, next week it will have pc3 and hardchrome clasic straights, i will be back next friday if the weather is good to see what it does any predictions

I went to Quaker City in salem last year and ran a similar time. I think it was a 13.3 at around 90 mph. I had reinharts and an otherwise stock bike. I didn't heat up the tire but also didn't launch the bike hard enough to spin it.This year I have a diy vbak and dyna coils; I'd like to see how they improved the bike. Let me know if you want to meet up and head out there Friday.

I wanna go race Friday but Vegas is a bit too far.

Curious why you guys do not heat up your tire?  Even if you don't heat it up it is still a good idea do a small and quick burn out to clean the tire and remove the dirt and other garbage you just rolled thru in the pit lanes, parking lot, return lane, etc.

Are you comfortable doing a burn out in front of other people?  The bike is certainly capable of doing it but are you?  What psi is your rear tire at when you were spinning?  Do you air down?

never thought about changing the psi but the reason for not doing a burn out is being a beginner i did heat it up the 2nd time but probally not enough my next time to the track i will heat up good

Well nobody is born knowing how to do it so practice will make it much easier and fun to do.  Good luck.

The day I took the bike to the strip it was some big-to-do out in salem, oh. More like a car show I guess with the amount of people at the track. I only got 1 run and didn't break the tire loose on launch. Whether it was because of my unfamiliarity with the bike at that point or questioning the need to heat up, i decided not to do it.

I must add that the bridgestone i have on the back now seems to be a stickier compound than the dunlop that came on the bike and anything less than popping the clutch at high rpm results in a hard launch with no tire spin. It's enough to make me question the power on my bike compared to everyone elses on here the way they talk about burning tire (even though I know it's not the case). I believe the tire compound that guys are running has a lot to do with spinning the tire on launches.

This year being more comfortable on the bike I may try to do a little heat up, but only after I prove that the track isn't sticky enough to tame this torque monster.

Stowawarrior - What you say is true..... however think of this.

Look at your timeslips, if your 60ft times are 2.0 seconds or more (and you did NOT spin your tires on the launch) it most likely will not matter what compound, what tire pressure, if the track has been treated with traction compound, or if you have heated your tires up.  That would tell me you are not heavy enough on the power and too slow on releasing the clutch completely.   It takes a level of comfort to rev the motor, hold your balance and launch a big heavy and keep things under control without worrying about popping a wheelie, or spinning the tire.

Can you recall what your 60' time was on that one run your were able to do?

I saw a good article on "how to launch on the warrior at the track" on here the other day. I can't remember where it was though. It said to bring rpm's up to about 3000 after you are staged, at the last yellow rev to full throttle while fully letting out the clutch at the same time. Does this sound about right to you guys?

I'd love to learn how to do that without watching my bike run away from me down the lane... LOL!!!

I've never run on a track, but when I rev to 2000-2500K and drop the clutch, the bike goes from stand still to light speed like a snap! I can't imagine dropping the clutch at full throttle... Wow!!

You guys got balls!!! I'd love to learn how to sit and spin the rear tire too. I'm getting new skins on Thrusday. It would be fun to spin off some smoke, before that...

I have always wanted to do that also. They thought of cleaning all the melted rubber off the bike has kept me from it though. LOL

Practice on a wet road it is easier on your clutch and tire wear and there will be minimal melted rubber stuck to your fender.  Getting the tire spinning by holding the front brake and twisting the throttle at the same time is kinda tricky the first time you try.
