The thought of replacing the right front plug was very intimidating but I took the plung and did mine about two weeks ago. It was long overdue.

The gap is referenced in the manual. Blow some air around the plugs before you start. Take the tank off. You need a socket wrench with a universal attachment.

The right front plug is a PIA. I dropped it while I was pulling it out and it got wedged sort of sideways. I managed to get a new plug in there without cross threading it, but be careful.

I probably should have took the air box off. Maybe somebody else has a few good pointers to make it easier.

Oh, I almost forgot, welcome to the forum.

    Welcome!

Go to the Technical forum.  At the top there is a post named "Popular Mods" and near the top of that post is a link for a free 2002 Service Manual download.  That will cover removal tips, care and caution, and gap, and gentle install torque.  While in Popular Mods anyway, have a look under "Spark Plugs" for links to handy prior conversations.

welcome welcome...suggested info by the brothers - bit of fuel hose to start wind the plugs in stops cross thread - the oem tools if you have them still - the socket wrench is just the right size for the job actually - read carefully also about getting the tank off it's ali and needs care - patience and don't rush it at all - or do it when you have time and all should go well - loads of info on other types of plugs - even a turbo while ya down their lol - this place rocks for info and good people

My first help note to any new to the 4m -  is ask what ya like when ya like, and most times pips will be kind and come back to you very quick - we have guys who are more expert in different fields, and long time gurus - before posting in the future it's good to have made a bit of a search first then ask - but hey sometimes it's urgent! lol - we like catchy titles - well they gets ya noticed anyway, and most of all, if you don't get a reply don't take it personally - it's a mystery why sometimes, and not often - just 'bump' ya post or start a new one - the guys here are some of the best on this 'ere planet and make good friends - you could go to AzW's link to mods and be their weeks!!! [it's an awesome library] you can even download a full manual which will be good for most jobs as he beast has hardly changed over the years - oh yes and there's a link for the changes to!! [another AzW special]. - cheers tom ba

If you use a spark plug socket there is rubber in the socket that will hold the plug and keep it from falling out.. =)

Always start the plug by hand before torquing it down to avoid cross threading it.

a 1/4 turn past hand tightening is all you need...

    Re: Change Spark Plugs

+ A LOT    on using air to blow out the area around the sparkplug base before taking it out.  I get a lot of stones that lay in and around the top of the head where the plug screws in.  The last thing I want is one of those bouncing around my piston and rings.

    Welcome,

This thread will answer any questions you have about the warrior including Maitenance, and mechical issues

    http://rswarrior.com/forums/t/115929.aspx

I will say, prepare yourself for battle when changin the spark plugs. 3 out of 4 are easy....And yes there are 4 plugs

The last is a real PITA...The right side front cylinder one is a tight squeeze. Use the stock tool kit for that plug. That was the key to my success....

Good luck and if you have any questions about the changing of the plugs send me a PM

Just remember if Yamaha really is dumping the warrior in 2010. Then we all have a collectors bikes now...
