    Orient express 31 tooth pulley

Just wanted to post my comments on the pulley.  I just got it in the mail from Justice.  First off I wanna say i definetely recommend buying anything from him.  Fast shipping and great communication!  Back to the review.  This mod is by far the best bolt Ive done to date.  The difference in acceleration is unreal.  I should be getting my VBAK tomorrow from Churchkey and with the combination of the two it should feel like a new bike.  Installation was straight forward and the Holy S@$t seat of my pants dyno was even better.  Once I have the VBAK installed Im gonna take a trip to the local dyno to see what numbers Im running.  Must do mod for anyone craving more get up and go.  Great product from a proven company!

..and what do think about the sacrifice you're making at the top end?  Noticeable?   What are your RPMs in 5th gear at 80 mph?

Absolutely.  Im only losing about 200 rpm.  I havent had it on the highway yet so Im not sure what rpm I will be running at 80.  Ive read however on other members posts that 5th gear at 80mph per hour should put me at about 3000 rpms.  Numbers like that are fine for me.  Once I get a good highway run I will post up exact numbers.  If your thinking about doing the 31 tooth to me its a no brainer unless you do alot of long distance highway riding.  Half of the time on the highway I do 80 mph anyway so I could cruise at that rpm all day.

Nice, I've been thinking about adding that mod to my list. Can't wait to hear

your thoughts about the 5th gear top end.

So since I have the Roadie 5th gear set the rpm at 80 would be pretty close to being back to stock.  I can live with that.

The stock front pulley is 32 tooth so dropping to a 31 gives you a different final drive ratio.  End result is better accerleration but at the cost of a higher rpm at any given speed and a slightly reduced top speed. I am not sure what the price is.

Price is between $172 and $216 depending on where you buy the pulley and what brand it is.

Re: Orient express 31 tooth pulley

I have switched between the two different pulleys for years.

The 31 tooth gives a LOT more light to light acceleration , and is great for a day out f'ing around with your buds...especially when they are on HD's!! They all know pretty well what a Warrior tail light looks like!!  I can still hit 135 on the speedo with the 31 , which is all it will do with the stock one anyways. It is also pretty good for rolling burnouts!! But for me...I am always lifting up on the shifter trying to find that phantom next gear when out on the highway. For a trip with longer stretches of highway cruising the factory pulley goes back on.

Since I have gone to the 260 tire I havn't rode with the 31 tooth on it yet. I need to because instead of always hunting for another gear I am now forgetting to shift into 5th!! The bigger tire made more difference than any pulley I've tried.

How long does it take to swap this pulley?

So what indicated rpm do you see at 80 mph with the Road Star 5th gear? With my Roadsmart 190 rear I see 3000 at 80 mph. I think I made a big mistake not doing this at the recall.

From start to finish it took me a little under an hour.  I used an impact gun for the pulley nut and it came off real easy.  The most time consuming part was cleaning the drive belt.  With the right tools its a pice of cake!

Re: Orient express 31 tooth pulley

I got the VBAK from churckey today.  It took me about three hours to install the whole system as well as do the ais blockoff kit.  Just got back from a ride.  All I have to say is HOLY CRAP!!!  It was all I was hoping for then some.  The bike pulls hard it seems at any rpm.  The VBAK and 31 tooth are the perfect combination of mods to get the bike pulling like a freight train!  The torque difference is unreal!!  The added bonus with the intake system is the throaty roar you get when you open up the throttle.

To answer the previous asked question:

The bike in 5th gear at 80mph DOES run at or very close to 3000 rpms.  The motor sounded very healthy and wasnt reving to high at all.

Effects of changing front pulley & rear tire

This is an old subject that has been hashed around quite a bit in the past and comes up frequently under different topics

Here is some trivia based on mathematical masturbation & known mechanics that might bring more clarity other than what has already been mentioned below:

    • Improved light to light & rolling burnouts – YES
    • Reduce top speed – YES
    • Higher engine RPM when cruising the highway - YES

The speedo & tach will not change at all because the modifications are being done downstream of the speed sensor device. A GPS is required to qualify the changes at a specific rpm or mph. If i'm not mistaken the Road* 5th gear 0.75 ratio will indicate a different speed than stock.

There is no increase in horsepower or torque only a shift in movement on the dyno curves.

Keep in mind that deviating from the 32T stock pulley to 31T or 30T puts the belt drive train under more stress because of the increased reduction ratio.

The percentages listed in these 2-charts use the stock components as the BENCH MARK for comparisons

    EXAMPLE: my ride has a 240/40 Metzeler on a 18 x 8-1/2" weld-up rim and a 33T frt Road* pulley = 3.56 + 3.03 = 6.59% diff
