    Fourth Gear Recall

I own a 2007. I just got my bike back from having the engine cases replaced because one of them had a hair line crack in it and it was leaking oil. This is another long story. To my surprise while the bike was in the shop for that repair they replaced all the gears. They told me that there was a recall on fourth gear. I never received any notice from Yamaha on this.

    Re: Fourth Gear Recall

There was such a recall on the 2002-2003 models ....but not the newer ones !! It was 4th pinion gear I believe. I would have them clarify that comment!

Does anyone know what vin numbers are punched to tell what recalls have been completed, so I may be able to tell without having to go through all the trouble of contacting a dealer or yamaha?

    Thanks

    Re: Fourth Gear Recall

On mine, they used something like a center punch to put a small dot/circle above the fourth character of the VIN.

Some dealers marked the VIN and some didn't.  Best bet is to call Yamaha with your VIN for final verfication.

    +1 good advice.

If your VIN plate is marked like this: http://rswarrior.com/files/folders/reference/entry1016342.aspx

Then its completed.  If its not marked, then Yami may tell you its actually been done but the VIN wasn't marked.
