    16000 mile check

I am at 19000 miles on my 06' warrior, I recently moved to South Carolina. I went to the Myrtle Beach Yamaha Dealer adn was quoted $650.00 to do the 16000 mile check then I called the dealer in Charlestown, SC (2 hrs south) and was quoted $350.00. My question is this, has anyone had the 16000 mile check done anhd how much did it cost. Either the Myrtle Beach dealer is trying to screw meor the Charlestown dealer is just trying to get me in the door THEN screw me... Don't know what to do. The 16000 mile check is like a 32000 mile check on your car, they go through everything... ANy help would be appreciated.

not exactly sure on whats envolved in the 16000 mile checkConfused guess i'll need to check my manual???( which would be a good thing as i'm coming up on the 14000 mark)  do everything you can youerself and only pay those that know what you dont... this way you will only have yourself to blame if things dont work out

I know you are concerned - and hey this is coming to all of us all sooner or later - but that was hilarious!

Lets face it you are screwed whatever way you look at it!

let them adjust the valves and do everything else by you by the service manual!

I would imagine it is a glorified oil change.  I have 16,000 miles on mine and was looking at adjusting the valves until I came across this post. I strongly recommend reading it.  Sorry, you will have to do a copy and paste to your address bar.  I don't know how to put it in as a link to click on.

I believe a 16,000 mile service is basically a valve adjust and oil change.  Maybe a few other things.  Not worth it in my opinion.  Change the oil yourself, and with the money you saved, buy some mods!!! Big Smile

REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE..........DON'T LET IT GET YOU DOWN!!!

Don't waste your money. It's all basic stuff. Check or change fluids, lube cables, check belt tension, examine brakes, clean or replace filters, ect.. Get a CD copy of the service manual on Ebay for $5 and if you have any mechanical ability the rest is easy.

I will chime in with what everyone else is saying....If you have some basic mechanical skills, do it yourself. My dealer wanted $250 for an oil change. A freaking oil change!!!! They said it was 2+ hours work because they do a multipoint check on the bike and make sure everything is safe and such. Screw that. You'll have to do a little digging but you can find all the info you need here on the forum including links to where to download the manual for free. There are very little differences between the model years so even if you have a newer bike you should still be fine for maintenance items. Most everything can be done without a motorcycle lift but it is easier if you have one. If you dont already have, get you some good metric tools (wrenches, sockets, allen key heads for your socket wrenches) and your good to go.

To me, 3-4 hours wrenching on the bike is well worth the $600 savings of doing something myself and also getting mroe familiar and intimate with my mistress at the same time. win/win in my book.

Can you dig it? ...CAN You Dig it? ... CAAAAN YOOUU DIIIIG IIIIIITT!?!?!?!??!?!

    Re: 16000 mile check

I solved the issue with my 16k check by always keeping the odometer on trip 1 to see how much fuel I have leftSmile.  I'm not sure that I even want to have the recalls done [:'(](TPS, CPS) since I'm not currently having any issues.  I have over 16k now and am due to an oil change.  Look at it this way, if they want $600 and it will take you 4-5 hours to do the same work, that's like earning $125-150 hour for your services.  I think that is better than most of us do in real life.

I know the voices aren't real, but they do have some good ideas.

I think the 16K check also includes greasing all the rear suspension joints which requires dis-assy, and also the headset bearings. I'm not substantiating the price they charge, just stating the facts. I did my own, nobody touches my bike. They'd have to pay me to work on it.

    Re: 16000 mile check

Ok, I am pretty mechanically inclined BUT, Here is what the 16k includes outside of "regular simple stuff (plugs oil etc)

     Replace Wheel bearings

    Repack SwingArm Pivot Bearings

    Drive Belt

    Repack Steering Bearings

Never mind it's to much crap to type. I ended up spending Close to $1000.00 including new breaks, and new front and rear tire. I also took it to another dealer (about 100 miles away) to have them check and ensure all the work was actually done. For me it was worth the $$$ simply becuase the time X my somewhat limited knowledge X the amount oftime the bike would be down if I screwed something up.... Thanks for all the input. Now, To continue to customize

Adjust the valves?  I thought these things had hydraulic lifters?

    Replace wheel bearings at 16k???

The low reliability belt is bothersome too.  Didn't Buell just guarantee their drive belts for the life of the machine?

The one adjustment I'd like to see done wasn't mentioned.  Is getting the throttle bodies balanced extra?
