I had my bike at my powdercoater getting more parts powdered and thought about getting my tins done.  He says some bike have a plastic liner in the tank.  Which makes them a pain to bake with the molten plastic and all.   Anyone know if Warriors have that plastic liner??   I dont really want to cut my tank in half to find out.  Thanks.

The tank has no liner, just pure recycled bean tins for a shell. Very thin. A good idea is to coat the inside with POR15 or similar before or after it's painted.

I had a 6 inch circle cut out at the filler cap and a new flush plate welded in for a new cap. Nope no liner. A word of warning with powder coating. It is great for frames, brackets, undertrays, etc., but never for polishing surfaces like the fenders, side casings and tank. It simply does't polish up and usually leaves an orange peel effect. Also to get the stuff off successfully in the future it has to be burned off at 750 degrees C or above. Which would probably warp the thin steel.

Just make sure you get all the gas out and let it "vent for a couple days w/ the cap off or wash it out with water.

 Another tip, You CAN wet sand gloss powdercoat.

and you can have your gas tank, fenders, run through a burn off oven. I had mine done w/ no problem what so ever!

Again get all the gas out!

Great thanks for the help.  I plan on matching the tins to the frame.  Flat with the same flake. 

Suggest you do not wash the tank out with water.

Remove the gas.

Plug the fuel line fitting, add 1/2 qt mineral spirits & slosh it around the tank.

Drain the mineral spirits.

Install one cup of rubbing alcohol & slosh it around.

Drain the alcohol & let it air dry.

You now have a clean non explosive rust free fuel tank.

 You can also run a hose from your car tailpipe into the filler neck on the tank,and let the car run for about 10 or 15 minutes. I use to make aluminum gas tanks,and if I had to weld on a used tank, this was the method we used. It really works.
