Windscreen? Is there not a search funtion here?

Well I think I'll want one right away, I got used to riding with one on my last bike. What are some of the different shields you might know about? I haven't found too many options but I want it to be as functional as it can without looking horriby out of place an the Warrior. Pics would be great. I think the Boulevard screen looks the best but it looks to me like you would still eat alot of bugs.

search function is at the upper right corner. the only experience i have with windshields is the one from yamaha. looked pretty good, but wasn't my thing, sold it on ebay. some here have the taller shields and someone will chime in.

     BTW, welcome to the 4M

The two windscreens that I think look the least out of place and don not turn it into a boring touring bike are the Yamaha ones...the Boulevard and the mini fairing..I personally like my mini fairing....small enough to be unobtrusive and just big enough to deflect some wind off my chest...plus I can stuff some gloves or a rain jacket behind it.

The yamaha mini fairing is ugly.  It looks like somebody chopped the nose off a sportbike and fastened it to a warrior.  It looks out of place in my opinion.  I hate windshelds all together on the warrior.  I think if you need a windshield, you bought the wrong bike.  Same goes with all the guys with back rests and saddle bags.  But if I had to choose a windsheild that looks the least hidious, it would be the boulevard.  Still don't like it though.  Wear a full faced helmet.  The wind doesn't bother you a bit.

While I agree w/Scoper the truth is, after a few years riding this beast on 800 and 1200 mile rides, or even just an hour at 120F across the Arizona deserts or at 30F through the frigid-cold mornings just about everywhere in the north, I dunno, at some point just getting the wind off your chest helps you go another couple hundred more miles.  The Blvd looks good to me now, and while I still need a face shield the wind-buffeting is gone.

I think I'll get a MS Bigshot. I don't like the looks of any screen but if I'm gonna have one, it has to be funtional. I rode my last bike for a year before putting a MS Poptop on. It makes riding at speed alot more comfortable. I rode witha fullface helmet during the time I didn't have a screen. I'm not a fullface kinda guy. Will I have any problem with clearence on my handle bars?

Taken from an earlier post that might be of interest:

    AlanH:
I'm on my 3rd Memphis Shades windshield....in chronological order  :)

    With Fork Mounting Clamps
    • Alley Cat-Looked great but poor coverage
    • Big Shot-Better coverage but lots of buffeting over the eyes
    • Big Shot w/RoadStar Brackets-Moved the shield over the tach, higher & closer on flatter angle. Best coverage but couldn't use when i upgraded my risers and handlebar due to interference with the cables (mainly the clutch)
    Two-Point HandleBar Mount
    • Hell Cat-Best looking of the bunch with good coverage and versatile mounting positions

Mini fairing with a Laminar Lip added for better coverage.

I never thought the Yammi mini fairing did much till I took it off and rode without it,definetly does the job and extends my riding time not to mention a lighter helmet .

I hate riding with a windscreen any way but the bike came with the memphis shades bigshot. The buffet is pretty severe from the neck up. My wife's neck was sore after a 4 hour ride just from the buffeting. Any windscreen that keep the wind from you face looks like s&*t on the warrior. I bit the bullet and bought a Memphis fats and made my brackets. We are much more comfortable on long rides when she makes me put it on.

Thanks for all the pictures guys! AlanH, so you're using the Helcat now? I think I like the looks of that one the best. Do you leave it on all the time or just when you take a trip?

The Yamaha Boulevard works nicely while looking good. I thought I needed more and got a Clearview GT20. Big mistake, I used it for one 15 minute ride and took it off due to the buffetting. The Yami windshield never came off after that. No buffetting, but I still wear a full face helmet cause I get wind to my head which is not a problem. I just want the protection and don't want to eat bugs.

    • Yes ... yes ...

There are several variables that effect proper coverage other than adjustability & height of the shield, IMO, such as: handlebar position, head gear & rider upper body length.
