    Re: Rear tire size

Enclosing a snap shot of an unpublished Excel spreadsheet that shows various popular tire sizes sorted in asending order by Diameter. As you can see the Dunlop D205 - 200/55R17 at 26.10" is a very tall tire indeed because of the aspect ratio and construction and at the same time very narrow at 7.36" compared to the stock tire at 7.90".

There is a genuine misunderstanding by many members regarding tire sizes and wheel diameters as can be seen by this example of the D205. It is just 0.10" shorter than the 250/40R18 Dunlop Elite 3 @ 26.20" .... the upside is that with this larger tire you will pick up approx 5.2% mph over the stock size.

The new tire must be properly mounted to the rim before making any evaluations Hmm

A good source for tire interference is a recent topic by Ken aka Bladerunr with the Avon Cobra AV72 and his problem with the taller tire at 25.90" hitting the inner fender at stock height.

I don't think there should be a problem with the larger tread diameter rubbing the swing arm pivot casting that connects to the shock if you're running the stock frt 32T pulley.

I hope you chk'd the tire date code on the sidewall. I always have the seller e-mail that info before bidding on an auction. I've personally experienced tires being sold on 2 occasions that were 5 & 8 yrs old!

I don't know about the best tire on the market, but a lot of us are having great results from the avon storm.

    Re: Rear tire size

I had a Avon cobra 200-55-17 mounted and I could not get my hand between the tire and license plate.  It was almost an inch and a half taller than the Avon Storm.  If your bike is lowered - any - there will be problems.

Wow. This thread was certainly enlightening. I bought my Warrior from the fellow that started this thread. The bike still has the 200/55 tire that he bought and installed.

It also seems to explain my suspension. The bike has the flip 'n grind but he also mentioned setting the suspension for the lowest setting. I should look into that because the ride is kind of soft and I'm a much bigger guy than he was. My fender bolts aren't digging into the tire, but the mudflap license plate bracket bolts do sometimes if I ride 2-up. I need to grind the tails off of them, or better yet, just get the IFEK.

This tire that he put on is a touring tire so it'll probably last a long time. I estimate that it has 2,500 to 3,000 miles on it based on his post and my riding miles so far. The damn tire looks nearly new. It'll take forever for me to kill this thing and get the right tire on the bike. I might step up to a 210 when I do since it seems to fit with no mods. Yes

Well, look at it this way folks-  If you're looking for a tire that performs nearly as well as the stock rear tire but has a long life so you can take long road trips, the one he installed will go the distance. It even fits if the bike is lowered. I can get my hand between the mud flap and the tire.

I wouldn't do that unless you have the extra cash to buy a new tire every 3K miles. The 210 does not have a good life expectancy. I would suggest saving your tire money and getting a DIY 240 for what 2-3 of the 210 Metzelers cost. Not to mention it gets a VERY pronounced flat spot in the middle after just a few miles which drives me crazy. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with this. I had the 210 and changed it with my oil, about every 3 or 4 monthsed of it so i went to the 280 Metz. I have over 8K miles on this tire and still have plenty of miles left. If you are going anything over 200 I would go ahead and get a fat tire kit. it will be cheaper in the long run. My 280 tire cost me just over $35 more than the 210 installed and is going on 3X the life. So far  going with the 280 has saved me about $420 so my kit will pay for itself within a year. Plus it looks soooo good.

Wow, thanks for the info. I'll either keep it stock or do the 240 then.

if its a touring - you should get a lot of miles out of it      i think
