Re: Best place for Corbin Seats?

My son kept wiggling on the stock seat and would make the whole bike move. Bought a Yamaha Corbin pillon and backrest from a forum member, put it on to see how it would look(looks great). He had used felt pads but since one was missing I took the pillon off to replace the pad. Noticed some dust marks on the fender from where it had been sitting. Thought about removing the felt but you can see the bolts up in the center of the rubber pads and since my son weighs 170 lbs (almost time for him to get his own bike) I did not want him collapsing those bolts on to my fender. Went to the dealer and and asked one of the mechanics if they had any of that clear vinyl that the factory puts on the fender to protect it from the stock seats. He said that they don't carry it then he remembered that the dirt bike riders use something similar and he gave me a couple strips of it. Placed it under most of the stuff touching the fender today. I guess time will tell if it did any good. He loves the Corbin pillon and likes how the backrest forms to his back. I like the solo too, much better then the stock. If you get a good discount through your yamaha dealer try them, thats how I got my solo. Didn't pay shipping and if something was wrong they would have takening care of the hassles of returning it.

I ordered my Corbin Rumble seat through the local Yam dealer. I am waiting forever so Corbin can match the paint to the scary fast Indigo paint scheme. I am being patient because I know that particular color paint is probably very hard to catch.

I have ordered direct from Corbin a couple times (2 Suziki and 1 Warrior seat) and have been very satisfied with the Staff. They take your choice of materials and colors then get your weight, inseam and height. Then the make a seat custom to you. It has not taken more than 3 weeks for me to get a seat when ordering during the winter, they say the time goes bit up during riding season.

Phat's actually gives us 5% discount, not 15%. I ordered a Stinger on March 5- Still waiting.

The Stinger will be for solo riding. For two-up, I'm gonna use the stock 2004 seat with pillion, along with a used Custom World backrest, which is being fabricated/powdercoated to fit my 2004.
I also have a butt buffer gel pad on order. So, all of the above with the Passenger re-location kit I already have on should be comfortable enough for the lady, and I don't have to be stuck with an ugly (IMO; no offence anybody) Rumble or Dual Tourer.

BTW Figstr, good thing you didn't want the Mustang Seat- they're not available for the 04/05.

BTW, if you can get to the Corbin factory in person, in Hollister, CA, they will build you a custom seat while you wait. They have the swatches for the different leathers offered, and they are very helpful. They will put your foam blank on the seat and let you drive it to adjust it just the way you want it. Also, if you buy a Corbin, they will make any adjustment to it for free (as long as they can reuse the cover). The Corbin factory is very popular, the day I got my Solo there were guys that drove in from hundreds of miles away (or trailered in)just to get their seat done custom in person. And they have a great cafe where you get free breakfast while you wait, AND, they have a pretty nice showroom with a lot of different bikes.

You know...Sargent Saddles and others can take your stock seat and modify it exactly as you like - I have not done this, but plan on doing it this winter when I can't ride!

I've used Sargent for my VFR800. Terrific job but as mentioned you have to send them your seat since they work off of the stock pan.

Re: Best place for Corbin Seats?

First of all, Thanks Alan for the great ideas on the seat. Second, I've heard Richie is now gone from Yamaha of Hamilton. Will they still work with site members on these seats? Third, is there any other site sponsor that can touch around 300 for a custom seat like Alans???
