    Drive Belt General Info

I'm hunting to see if more belts have come to market, nothing new yet but this could be handy.  The Gates seems to be the way to go based on forum success.  The Pather seems to be renamed 'POS Panther' due to its huge reported failure rate.  I don't see enough Goodyear belt information so don't know quality.  The BDL belt is normally shipped as a Panther belt.  The MSSS (and most Yami on-line vendors) also sell the Panther belt, sometimes with a BDL part number.

After you do your own research if you decide you want a Gates belt, which is a bit more money, be careful ordering or you could receive a lower quality "Carlisle Dayco Panther" (or BDL-Dayco) (or POS Panther Piss) belt.

The Gates PC-130-118 belt cross reference is:

    Custom Chrome p/n is 42780

    Drag Specialties p/n is DS197089

    Mid-USA p/n is 77552

    Midwest p/n is 58-368

    Star/Win p/n is B5935

    Preston p/n is 42113

    Biker's Choice p/n is 439015

    Re: Drive Belt General Info

I tracked this down with a search based on posts by members and by going back thru popular mods.  It seemed good to start putting belt brand and part# information in one spot.  I'm starting to look for replacement belts just to have one on-hand for my '03 since its bound to snap one day!

Lots of very specific belt information on this site from established members. When and if you purchase a belt confirm from your vendor of choice that it is Aramid Fibers & Polyurethane ribbing

As you know, cross referenced, interchanged & alternate part numbers assigned to the OEM P/N’s are typical to the cycle & auto industry and will not guarantee the quality of the substituted part.

    Carlisle Panther 1-1/2” wide - 14mm pitch - 130 teeth
Phat Performance sells this as a Dayco Panther Belt under Drag Specialty P/N DS-197004, 40017-94 1.5" x 130T, 99-03 etc

Belt Drives Ltd (BDL) - Mfg by Gates: 1-1/2" wide - 14mm pitch - 130 teeth
Phat Performance sells this as a Gates HTD Poly Chain Rear Drive Belt under Part GATES-HTD 42616
    The belt was tagged w/ Drag Specialty P/N DS-197099, Vendor # PC-130 & Description: 130T 14mm Belt #40017-94 as shown below

The following belt description is from the Phat Performance web page

    14mm Gates HTD® "Poly Chain®" Belts
All HTD® Poly Chain® belts have the distinctive exterior ribbing and are manufactured in the USA by the Gates Rubber Company. Poly Chain® belts are Kevlar® reinforced and feature rugged construction with aramid fibers surrounded by polyurethane.

Yes, excellent suggestion Alan.  Will do.

    Keeping this separate on purpose.

From the info here and out on the web, the BDL belts show up as Goodyear belts, Gates belts, and Carlisle belts.  How interesting.

The Gates is shown in alanh's post above.

    Goodyear: http://www.kustomkolorsink.com/m10_view_item.html?m10:item=13210-13217

    Carlisle Panther: http://www.demonscycle.com/Shop/Control/fp/build_tis_sku/5600738/vpid/5600738/SFV/31995

They obviously have strong ties in the industry.

    Re: Drive Belt General Info

I am to the point where I would put money on the fact that GATES belts were bought by Yamaha and then had Yamaha painted on the belt.

In our hands lies the future of the world, for as we train our children we shape in them the pattern of things to come. We, who are filled with the aberrations inherited from our parents, heretofore could only be resigned to pass on these aberrations to our children in ever-increasing intensity. 'Round and 'round it has gone, and where it might stop nobody has known.
