    Problem with vstar 1100

Ok I konw some of yall have had or delt with the vstar 1100. My buddy has one and it is haveing trouble. It is an 03 and only has 1000 miles on it he has only had it about 3 weeks now. It is popping realy bad when you giveit gas to where is sounds like a gocart and I do believe it is a compression thing. The last time it did this the AIS line was loose but now the lines are all tight and the plugs are also good. so my guess it that the ais pump is bad we have a removal kit on the way but he wants to be able to ride till it gets here. So if you have any sugestions plese chime in I will check them all. THanks again.

I am not spoiled, I am just broke.

if the AIS removal kit is the same idea as the Warriors, then you should just remove the AIS and weld shut the plumbing. Thats all I did. Instead of spending 20 bucks on those little plates, we just welded the stock plates with the plumbing coming out of them shut. basically the same thing. Of course you would have to have access to a welder...

10 bucks its the carburator....probably is all dirty with old gas...was the problem i had with my old Vstar.........probably wouldnt hurt to clean out the jets, and replace the plugs as well......

ride it like you stole it!

Start by draining all the gas and then run an aggresive mixture of seafoam and high octane gas thru the bike. For an 03 with that low of miles, my guess is it sat more then it was driven and the carbs are all gummed. Might need to take the carbs apart and clean them real good.

    +1 Slopoke & Darkstar

    Clean those carbs.

If he isn't going to ride it much, attach some drain hoses to the float bowls and drain the carbs after using it. I did that with my 87 GSXR and the carbs have been clean for 21 yrs.

Hasn't he already run several tanks of fuel through the bike?

Was it running bad when he bought it because it seemed to run OK when I saw it. Is this something that started recently? Could be bad gas too, where's the fuel filter on that puppy. I'm not familiar with that bike but if it was running well for a couple of hundred miles and started running poorly, I'd probably tune it (air filter, plugs, fuel filter, timing) Since you gutted the exhaust, you might be running lean too, you could rejet the carbs and look for crap in there. Also, bad gas from the station would make me think drain the fuel, change the filter, sea foam and plugs. None of this costs too much. Not sure about the jets, used to be cake on bikes I've done in the past.

Yep this one is obvious.  Its been sititing.  Change the air filter, spark plugs, and clean the carbs.  Remove and clean the jets.  The varnish will be heavy sitting so long so I'd pass on the trusty seafoam and take the carbs apart.  Its not that hard.

Was this bike recently running great?  Is there more to the 1,000-mile story!

    Re: Problem with vstar 1100

Ok well we finialy got it running after an almost week long headach. Here is the list of problems we fixed. We flushed out the sh!t ton of rust in the tank, flushed the entire fuel system, cleaned the carbs about 3 times re jeted and removed the ais, new plugs, new fuel filter and now it runs like a brand new bike. oh and the 1,000 mile story is that he got it almost a month ago with only 567 miles on it and it had no problems until he got to around 1,250. my guess is that all the vibrations and fresh fuel rattled all the old rust in the tank loose and caused it to get gummed up real bad. Thanks for all the help and sugestions.
