I could be wrong here but I do believe the front pulley if further out than the rear pulley. This would make sense considering the pulley shots provided in this thread. The wear is dead center on the front pulley which is twice the width of the rear pulley.

    +2 Yes

Ram396 methodology might work on his custom wheels and spacers w/ the Baron swing arm but is bogus for this exercise and useless Wink

Yamaha didn't engineer the Warrior with the outer pulley flanges in alignment

ok, well I just got back from a short 50 mile ride.  There doesn't seem to be any issues thus far.  I cruised, I accelerated, reached highway speeds, shifted thru the gears and so far so good.  I had the belt a little tighter than normal and it felt really responsive to quick throttle inputs.  ALthough it felt very torquey, I was concerned it might be too tight so I loosened it a little.  Now, I can feel it is not as responsive when I blip the throttle.  I don't know if I should go back and make it a little tighter...

I am seeing conflicting posts (or perhaps I am just confused) about whether one should err on the tight side or loose side.  Too tight and I read you may ruin your front pulley.  Too loose then I read you may snap a belt...  I thought I read Alan (whom I trust) suggest to MessX to err on the tight side...is this corrrect Alan?

If the belt is to tight it will hum. Not a catchy tune that you can use while working but like when someone is meditating.

If you ride 2 up you may want to run it a bit looser.

thanx Woody, I never got my belt so tight that it sang for me...Stick out tongue  I don't ride 2 up so I think I will tighten the belt up just a tad, maybe move the adjuster bolts out by 1/8" on both sides....

If the belt has a set to it i would error to the tight side of the tolerance..... and i don't mean strung like a guitar string.

Pls don't ask me how much as all my belt adjustment is done by eye and feel.

When i R&R my rear whl i don't touch the belt adjust scrs. I loosen the appropriate pcs and pull my whl rearward with no weight on the whl, using the jack to get the whl in a neutral axis, and remove the RH adj plt 1st and then remove the axle enough to remove the LH adj plt. I go from R&R to R&R w/o touching my adj scr's. I mark the flat side of the axle bolt so that the axle is always in the same clocked position when it's assembled in the swing arm.

Next time you ride with a group of Warriors do a belt check and do the same at the Dealer... you'll be really surprised Surprise ... just take your surgical gloves and stethoscope so they think you are a Doctor of Motorcycles Big Smile

thom, for what it's worth and hopefully gives you some confidence , my 1 1/2" gates tracks to the left side of the rear pulley but when pushing the bike backwards it will track to the right.... i have ridden the bike enough since doing the wide belt  conversion that if she was going to come off then she would have come off by now. so lets see, you have the belt switched out in 25 minutes right? how much time invested in worring about the tracking issue? Big Smile just meesin' with ya, last thing i would want is to lose a belt while spinning down the highway so i can understand you being a little paranoid about it...... Yes

yeah I was saying to myself, "..all that studying and staring at the service manual (like I usually do before i R&R) in order to figure out how to do it quickly and I end up spending more time on it trying to get the right damn adjustment!..."

I was careful and methodical when I was doing it, thinking each step thru....I really think it's this particular belt cuz I have done this before with the old oem belt and never had it track this drastically before...it's just the damn tracking to the left that I have never seen before and was throwing me off.  I guess what I learned out of all this is that each belt will act differently and will favor one side or another acceptably...

The bright side is all this learning will pay off as my buddy's ask me to help with their Warrior....

Oh, I'll let you in on a little secret also...I wash my hands alot, like every 5 minutes when I am just sitting watching tv or something.  My wife says I'm borderline OCD cuz there are certain things that I obsess about...Geeked

So you are saying that the front and rear pulleys do not line up with each other but are offset???? Confused

They line up, just not at the flanges. See pics on page one of this topic for clarification and note the belt wear on the front pulley.
