    The Favre Fiasco

Just like anyone who has been following the developments concerning Brett Favre's retirement and then reinstatement I've heard a lot of opinions and suspicions and so forth and I was curious what people's feelings are here.

One idiot announcer went so far as to say Brett was an embarassment and a fool last week.  I'm of different minds about the whole situation but two things I'm certain of is that this is really a shame that it's playing out this way and Brett Favre is far from an embarassment or a fool.  He is, afterall, one of the most beloved players the sport has ever seen and will, without any shadow of a doubt, be in the Hall of Fame.  I would be willing to bet he'll be a first ballot inductee as a matter of fact.

I understand the Packers need to move on and they gave him ample opportunity to make his decision and even back out but this whole thing reminds me of when Tom Landry was fired and situations like when Dan Marino and Emmit Smith were ending their careers.  The NFL has made it mandatory for rookies to visit the Hall of Fame so everyone coming into the league has an understanding and respect for the players and coaches that have made it's history but where is that respect right now for a living legend who is just having a hard time walking away when he (and everyone else) knows he can still play better then Rogers and most other quarterbacks?  After all he's done for Green Bay I would have never guessed in a million years this could have turned so ugly and so public.

Come week three you might have if Favre was still in GB.  Stick out tongue  Speaking of the Cowboys, one of them made referance to how it effects other players, specifically Aaron Rogers.  I think that's a good point, you know it had to suck trying to practice with hundreds of Favre fans chanting the whole time.

Word down here is he could be a Buc as soon a this afternoon.  Bucs look like the only team willing to pony up the $$$$.  I'm a huge Favre fan...I mean who could start all those consecutive games at that position with a huge bullseye on his chest and remain healthy enough to never be scratched from the lineup.  Incredible!  Maybe one of the greatest achievements in sports.  But, I really don't want to see him come here.  Our offense sux, but not from the quarterback play last year.  I think the Bucs have Garcia under contract for less than $2 million, and Favre requires $12 million.  Not worth it.  Money best spent to address other needs.  Plus, "Buc ball" is primarily focused on defense with the offense not making mistakes and turning the ball over.  Favre just takes too many chances.  Exciting yes, but will probably cost us alot of games.

I think people should shut the F$*k up in most cases, especailly Jim Rome, He should be allowed to play and make what the market will bear, last year he looked as good as anyone in the NFL, in that position, the thing is, is he wants to win football games and as long as HE feels like he can do that I think he should be given the opertunity from whoeva is willing to pay his salery.

That's the word everywhere because he sure isn't going to be playing in GB now after what they said yesterday.  The one thing you're forgetting is that Garcia is still questionable injury wise isn't he?  I doubt it but maybe he goes to Green Bay in the deal?  There's been talk about how Gruden and Favre will mesh but I think it will work out well enough and I can actually see it being a fantastic pairing if other things work out.  Consider Brett's previous coaches and how his personality and play style grated on Holmgren for all those years.  It didn't work out too bad for them.  You said it will cost you a lot of games but history says the chances he takes pay off and will actually WIN you a lot of games.  Also, make no mistake, if Favre ends up in Tampa they WILL work with him and change the offense a fair amount to meet him in the middle.  My biggest concern is that he really isn't fully comitted enough mentally to do all the things he has to do to be the Pro Bowl player he can be this year.  I'd hate to see all the asshat haters be proven right and hear about what a mistake it was for him to change his mind.

Bottom line, I'd much rather see him in TB then with the Jets and it seems to me like they shouldn't be able to charge TB more for him then they're asking from the Jets either.

I wasn't even talking about Jim Rome when I mentioned the guy who called him a fool and an embarassment.  I never watch him anymore, way too much garbage and not enough facts and news.  That's like Skip whats his name...  I could do without most of those guys and the whole ESPN way of reporting for that matter.  I remember before ESPN when reporters didn't seem like they were jacked up on blow the whole time and there didn't have to be a 290mph pace to get you not only the scores and info but 50 pop culture referances and jokes per story as well as their unwanted personal opinions on the matter including a fashion review of what the players were wearing at the time, etc.

The Bucs are probably trying to trade Chris Simms, who will probably be cut a the end of training camp, barring any serious injury to Garcia.  Reports are that Garcia's calf strain is not serious.  He is being held out of contact practice still but is out of the boot splint and is walking fine without crutches.  They will probably hold him out of games and practice for another week.  Simms is very disgruntled and the Bucs have been using him as trade bait all summer, with no real takers.  In my opinion, Gruden's offense works best with a very mobile quarterback.  Not sure Favre is the guy for that.

You're not talking about to GB are you?  There's no way Simms would work out there.

NOPE! Not Kidding. The Cowboys should be very good this year.

BTW,.....Who's your favorite NFL Football Team? Don't be afraid to share. Or are you just another Cowboy hater? Shame to waste a whole season just hating one team,...why not pick one and root for them. I've been a Cowboy fan since 1970. They've been very successful.

Guys, stay on topic please.  We could do a whole 30 page thread about all the ways the Cowboys suck but let's not do it here.  Wink

So with that in mind, it's the end of the day pretty much and no announcement from Florida and apparently Brett's family and friends are trying to push him towards the Jets now (as if Brett or his family really gets to decide).  Him and his agent both made referances to the Jets when they landed in MS also.  This will be nuts if after all this crap over the last month this goes on another several days and the window of opportunity closes and he ends up not playing afterall.

I am just glad he did not end up in minnisota. Sure Jackson is definatly not the answer but Farve is washed up. Does anybody watch him play? Will Favre fans ever come down to reality. I would love to play against him if I was the opposing teams defence. He is done. As for the Jets they just want to sell more tickets. Why else would they want that broken down old man on their team.
