    Turn Off Running Lights? HELP

I would like to turn off the running lights. Has anyone done this? I have been looking through the forums and only found that many want the lights running added to the rear.  I want them to work only as blinkers.  Need to know which color wire to detach and will it affect anything. Thanks.

THANKS to everyone for their help

If you have an unmodified Warrior the rear turn signals are just that Surprise ... they are not running lights!

The frt turn signals function as running & turn signals

Suggest you read your owners manual

Open the headlight bucket, turn the key on, turn the left or right signal on.  Find the 3-wire harness for the apropriate turn signal, and disconnect the wires one-at-a-time until you get the desired effect.  Repeat for the other side.  I think you're looking for a light blue wire.  Once you're done, cover any exposed connectors with elec. tape before closing up the bucket.

Won't the click-of-death manifest itself with no running lights the same way as it would with LED replacements?

    Yes it will.

    It is the blue wire.

You can install a small automotive bulb similar to a dash light bulb in the curcuit & leave it inside the headlight bucket. The ECU reads a completed circuit & the "click of death" will not occur.

If the rear OEM license plate light is connected there will be no COD Wink

This is how I resolved my click when I removed my rear lic plate light and changed to LEDs.

    +1 on the blue wire.

When taking out the running lights and only having them as turn signals is dangerous in my opinion. I like the fact that they are there especially at night so cars will know a motorcycle is approaching. If you only have just the head light on and no running lights vehicles coming towards you at night might mistake you for a car with a burnt out headlight. It might even be an issue that you could be operating illegally. Anyways it's your bike and your life. Good luck and be safe.

Will any little tach light work or is there a certain one?

    http://rswarrior.com/forums/p/22258/282150.aspx#282150 has a picture.

I already removed the license plate light and put nothing in its place. I just taped up the wires and I have no problems, yet.

Either I put the light or remember to put it in neutral and turn it off with the key.  I also added an HID headlight with 4300K bulb bi xenon.

Will the HID affect the click of death?

     Thanks again.

     Thanks again AlanH.

For the license plate light wires; should I do something with them or leaving them taped will be fine?

If it will be fine, is it because I still have the running lights? But, when I take off the running light I will need a load or resistor to take its place? This is my take of what I've been reading.

THANKS to everyone for their help

Re: Turn Off Running Lights? HELP

If you remove the stock front signals then you remove the running lights at the front of the bike.

If you unplug the lead wires for the tail light (and license plate light) then you don't have any running lights at the back of the bike.

IMO this is very dangerous and is also likely illegal since federal DOT requires them.  The headlight up front will probably save you from a ticket or accident.  Since the rear signals are not always-on running lights, are you worried about getting rear-ended?

    I must be misunderstanding something!

    • Taped is fine Yes and tie them up so they aren't hanging w/ a tie wrap or equiv!

If it will be fine, is it because I still have the running lights?

    • The frt running light issue was addressed already early on by others....just unplug the 2-blue snap connectors in the headlight housing & tape. The turn signals will still work.

But, when I take off the running light I will need a load or resistor (LEQ) to take its place?

A LEQ (load equalizer) is used to correct rapid flashing of the turn sigs and has nothing to do with the Click of Death or solenoid syndrome!

This is my take of what I've been reading.

livin808 ... Why don't you repost what your lighting goals are for the immediate and future mods instead of spoon feeding this post and i'm sure someone will chime in with an answer Wink ... Also, updating your gallery with year, etc helps me as i always check that 1st before replying!
