    Need help from Electrical guru's

I want to replace the stock rear signal lights(2 wire) with Headwinds 1-3/8" Rocket signal lights(one wire). I am assuming the bulb is grounded inside the housing of the Headwinds light. How do I adapt the two wire rear system to a single wire system? Brown is the left signal, and green is the rear single and they both have a single black/dark brown ground wire that quick disconnects plug into. I'm wondering if by bridging the two "ground" wires for continuity will the Headwinds single wire units work as signals for me?

As long as the new signals are body or chassis grounded to the battery in some route the lights will work.  You can leave the ground sockets empty except you'll need to keep a ground for the rear running and brake light functions.  From memory (watch out!) you don't need to join the two ground sockets (although it won't hurt anything if you do).

    SuicideD_45 .....

There is only 1 Grnd wire in the fender harness if you check the plug under the ECU in the wire tray  Surprise ....The Grnd wire is branched for each device separately at the rear taillight so no problema. Throw some tape over the 2 empty female snap connectors.

I see you have the Yamaha IFEK which is steel and conductive. I would suggest you use dielectric grease on mounting the Headwinds to the kit for a long lasting trouble free connection.cause you'll need to pierce the paint. Personally i would wire a Grnd to the new lights as the factory does since it can aid in trouble shooting down the road.... just my .02 Wink

Bottom line the single wire will work in the short run and corrosion will be your enemy in the long run Hmm.

Alan, I was wondering about that IFEK when the light was hooked into the harness earlier. Of course, I didn't to ensure that there was metal to metal contact between the chrome hardware and the painted bracket. THe dielectric grease is a great idea...I will use some on it when I attack it tomorrow, thank you! As far as the branched ground, I figured that it was obvious....I used the same principle when I had the lights mounted on the front of my old Road Star a few years back. Thank you for the expert info to you and ArizonaWarrior though...it's much appreciated and has made understanding the problem much easier.

I'll have to post a couple pics of the new lights when I get them working.
