Yes it should have said 'when replacing oem bars and risers with many aftermarket' I guess I figured you guys knew that.  Good catch in case some did not know the stockers are studs.  Then, with many aftermarket bars made for the Warrior (as the TT's) there comes a shim to go into the damper under the riser washer, and the truth is, I remember the shim being oem and part of the damper (just not shown as a separate item in the parts view), but I guess I'm wrong. * okay technically its a bushing not a shim - can you spell H-o-m-e-r -D-o-h-!

No - forget triple tree pinch bolts - use the nomenclature I provided to locate the correct line items in the service manual so you make these corrections in the right place and on the right line items in the service manual.  Its meaningless for this activity that other names Yami/Star happen to use elsewhere be used.

No - the HEX is M27 but the line item in the service manual to be modified reads as I originally showed.  Correct THAT line item and  leave the M18 because that is the thread size if you look at the column it's in.

The fender bolt dimensions were corrected.   as posted some time ago and were the actual length that particular member had in his bike. I like that an odd measurement was brought forward.  How accurate can someone be.  Nominal or not, I think its cool.

The following information, ONLY, is submitted based on my hands on experience early on when fabricating a special off-set rear axle nut tool and the SS laser cut turn signal brackets that attach to the triple tree. The riser info is text book & boiler plate!

    Arizona Warrior:

    Page 2-24 Handlebar holder (lower):

    • make a note: oem bolt size is M12x70mm zinc. USE OEM provided shims and washers under risers per Factory Manual.
      • The OEM risers have cast in place studs that are integral to the riser and are M12
        •  The Yami Billet Risers come with M12 1.75p x 70 Lg Soc Hd Bolt
    • Handlebar holder (lower) and handlebar holder (upper) are the Triple Tree Pinch bolts
      • Upper - M8 1.25p x 25 Lg
      • Lower - M8 1.25p x 30 Lg

Page 2-25 Rear wheel axle nut M18:  M27  fix error: not 110 Ft/Lbs so make it read 72 Ft/Lbs tightening torque (verified with Churchkey -

he discovered this was confused at printer w/drive sprocket torque).

Page 2-26: add helpful info about the rear fender stay oem bolts from published topics:

    • fender bolts = M8x1.25 24.5  25mm long
      • I suspect the above is a keying error Wink

    • What you are calling a shim is a thin wall bushing, sleeve or long collar that is a proprietary part supplied by Yamaha to act as a filler pc between the 14mm ID riser bushings and M12 bolts that they supply with the TT's and billet risers. The purpose is to center the smaller dia bolts in the top tree bushings and this part is not catalogued as stated. The OEM washer is.

    • You are absolutely correct, Pg 2-25, refers to Thread Sizes and 18mm is the correct thread .... My Mistake Sad

Considering how often the Yami parts site and service manual confuse terms, please clairfy.

When you talk about the pinch bolts, that isn't the part being discussed is it, as shown in the view below, which is referred by the service manuals and the Star parts website by the 'handlebar holder - lower' ?

The triple tree pinch bolts are something else, Item #10, is that correct for both parts site and service manual?  I ask mainly because if the Pinch Bolts are indeed Item #10 for the top (not shown for the bottom) then these bolt sized you mention are more info to add to the service manual for everyone, and probably you can suggest the best page in the manual to jot that note?  Maybe the top of Page 2-24 in the service manual?

    Mike,

    Yes

10 - Upper tree bolts - handle bar holder upper - top tree

39 - Lower Tree bolts - Lower handlebar holder which is a misnomer as it doesn't hold the handle bar - Lower tree

I call them pinch bolts - what ever.

    Does this answer your question?

Re: Popular Mods and Repairs, How-To Discussions

    Yes it does help, gratias.

I understand your view on the nomenclature so we have that in common i.e. I also wish manufacturers including Star would keep it simple and use the same part names across the board.   It sounds like we both think the Yami name 'handle crown' for the top plate is silly, but I tried to use the names actually shown in the Yami service manual.  But since you have these bolt sizes, can you help with the last bit?  Just to be sure you can verify what I'm asking (I may not always post clearly):

    9     5PX-W2341-00-00 CROWN, HANDLE   1

Can you verify this is correct for the mentioned upper and lower tree bracket pinch bolts?

The #10 bolts go to the #9 crown, and they are M8x1.25 pitch and 25mm long.

The #39 bolts go to the (#38?) (lower tree) bracket, and they are M8x1.25 pitch and 30mm long.

I think manual page 2-24, top, is probably where to record this.  What do you think?

I can see this info being incredibly helpful to know in the future.

I call them pinch bolts - what ever[added 2-3-9 by ArizonaWarrior: as you ref'd by PM the name 'pinch bolts' is indeed used in the FM portion of the service manual, pages 4-55 and 4-67 - but we were not at the time addressing these bolts and they are not on the original list in the first post of this topic - still I hope you will confirm the info you've shared with us - its not my data so I can't be the guy confirming it.]

    .

    Does this answer your question?
