    Roadstar Pulleys and belt

OK, not a new mod. Many have done it. I only post mine in case some of the new guys missed it.

    I purchased these

I removed the inner ring from the front pulley so as not to have to grind on the case.

I know the bike is nasty. I will wash it tomorrow.

Here is a pic of the rear pulley and the belt.

If anyone is considering this mod, it was very easy. I ordered a belt tension gauge and will be setting the tension as per the manual ASAP.

Total money spent was right at $300

Thanks Alan and Joe for your input. I wouldn't have done it without some simple reassurance that it was not a big deal.

I am not farmilar with this mod. What is difference between the road start pulleys and the stock warrior ones? What is the advantage of this mod? I think the road star is a wider belt but does not make a difference?

If the wrench is not in my hand it does not touch my warrior.

Correct. it is a wider belt. I am hoping for a little added strength.

I am pretty sure I was installing previous belts a little loose and that was causing my problems but I am tired of buying belts and want as much advantage as possible.

I hope it works out good. I have not had any belt problems yet but also I am not making any serious power over stock yet either. Probably less as I do need a better map. Probably in the future after some more engine upgrades this will be a mod I may have to do. I do not want to go chain. Have a chain on my interceptor and they are a messy, noisy, and IMO a pain. I am a big fan of the belt drive on the street.

cool mod james YesCool i did the same thing a while back when i did the 250 conversion, how many teeth on the front pulley? the ad doesnt specify. i did the 33 tooth and am seriously thinking of going with the 31 tooth for more " get up and go"

I stayed with 32. I am trying to reduce the amount of stress on the drive train. I plan to ride a little easier as well. We will see how that goes.

Here is a good question.  How would this affect the problems with the front pulley nut.  After reading the "total recall" page I am nervous again because I have been checking it regularily for red dust but apparently that is not enough for some.  How was the locknut compared to the warriors.  I bought the superceded lock washer, took my cover off, and it looks exactly the same.  Maybe it was changed during one of the recalls.  Anyways, I do have a point and thats that if this somehow this eliminated the potential for this problem-$300 would be a small price to pay.  What do you think?

    Nice looking mod James!

You know over time the links for parts you gave will disconnect.  Your should edit your post to also include the actual part names with part numbers.  Then this will be a good long-term mod topic!

Yes, the '04' & > are offset 1/8" closer to the inside of the swing arm and use a 1-1/8" x 70T rear pulley. Here's a url to '05' Road* documented comnparison & Warrior rear pulleys: http://flickr.com/photos/15071518@N07/sets/72157606361479991/detail/

The outer edge of the belt will run closer to the inside outer flange of the front pulley. If this disturbs you, remove the studs from the hub and have it refaced 0.120" max. The stock configeration should work. A visual inspection of the current belt tracking will confirm or deny the aforementioned!

Proceed at your own risk. Standard disclaimer applies.

This mod will have no effect on the nut coming loose. The same nut and lock washer is used.

I will put a couple hundred miles on it and check the nut.
