    Pipe gaskets??

I am putting pipes on my yamaha. The honda kawasaki shop is close to me and said they would install the pipes for half the price of the yamaha dealer and they are a lot closer to me.Do I have to change the gaskets when these pipes are put on,and  and if they have to be changed are they pretty much available to any dealership or do they have to be yamaha gaskets??or is a gasket a gasket??

I would just buy the correct gaskets and do it myself.

They are installing the pipes and the fi2000r module and the brake relo for $150. For that I could be somwhere making that with less aggravation.

The head pipe gaskets are generally re-useable.  You should keep a spare set for that day when you need them unexpectedly, but if this is the first time the pipes are off the bike you can re-use them no problem.  BTW its about a one hour swap.  The FI you are using isn't very adjustable and won't get rid of all the decel popping, you could do it yourself for free in two hours +/- your skills but its good to invest time and learn.

+1 on doing it yourself. Ditch the FI module. you can compensate by bumping the ecu values. Unless you really really want to get every ounce of performance possible from your engine, intake, exhaust then you would need to go with a PCIII anyway. The Cobra is just not tunable enough. Finally, ive had my pipes on and off probably 15 times in the last few months and Im still using the original gaskets. Holding strong. They are about $10 each from the stealer and in my case 4 dealers around me all claimed to normally have them in stock but were all sold out when I thought I needed them. Only took them 2-3 days to get em so its not a BIG deal but still.

I just happen to have swapped my exhaust last week and have the extra gaskets I didn't use here next to me...  the part number if you want to get some is 3GD-14613-00 and they were $8 and some change each.  You're just asking for trouble in my opinion by trusting other people to work on your bike, especially other dealerships.  Then again, if you don't have the ability to do it yourself or have friends that can help you there's not much choice I suppose.

As far as the Fi being worthless I'd have to disagree because even though the Fi2000 isn't as complete as a PCIII it at least offers some finer adjustments then just bumping the ECU and changing the mix across the whole spectrum.  It's not like you paid the $300 that a PCIII would cost you so obviously you aren't expecting it to perform to that level of detail.

Good luck with the mods, hopefully you'll give installing them yourself a go and use it as a learning experience.  The exhaust swap is pretty straightforward and the Fi install isn't too tough either once you know how to get to things.
