    Devils Highway updated with pics

I was going to do a quick over night ride after my run to Utah was postponed because the guys I was going with bailed on me.   I jumped on the bike in Amarillo and when I got to my turnoff to the north, the bike just kept going and going and going west, So I decide to go do the Devils highway in AZ.  So about 650 miles later I was in Springerville AZ. I really was not plan on going that far but hey it was the road and a nice run.  There was a run there that was really cool http://www.azride.com/DevilsHighwayRun.html

This highway rocks (Rt. 191 previously named Rt. 666), It takes forever to ride it 95 miles of twisty, a lot of them are posted at 10 mph 15 mph and 20mph. The forest is very nice along the run.  I would recommend this run for Anyone that is not a NewBe to riding. It is not for a new motorcycle owner. If you have been riding for a while this is a must do run.  A few of us decide to ride this run backwards form the scheduled course,  If you look at the link I did it backwards.

There is no gas from Alpine to the next stop so top off the tank(about 98 miles) with a lot of climbing and twisty road.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the road at 9+.  If  roads did not have some loose gravel on them it would be a perfect 10.

The run did not start until 9:00am AZ time. I was up at 5am AZ time so,  I jump on the bike at 5:30  to 9:00 am about 3.5 hours  before the run. The sun was up by 5:45ish.  Then joined up with the rally and turned in the 285 mile run. Then headed home. This was the longest time and most miles I have ever done in one day. Rode from 20  hours nonstop except fuel.  Longest stop was about 15 minutes.  It was so fun.  IRON Butt ride

Wow I will be going back there in the fall. This place rocks to say the least.

Go out and look a few You tubes on “devils highway”.

    God bless bob

    Looks like a great ride!

OK, need details on all that stuff on the right side of your handlebars.. Cool  Also, how is that Clearview working for you?  Is that the "Large"?

    1. the white thing is a IPOD Nano in a arm band strap. I use the armband strap to hold it in place it works great.

the little grey and black box to the left of the ipod is a HAM RADIO with a APRS  it has about a 40 mile range.  Look at pic below for track every little red dot is a track report that is clickable (with my direction, alt, speed, lon and lat. It is  mounted with a ram mount so it takes about 10 seconds to remove it from the bike. It is only on the bike when i do road trips.  Kind funny my wife called me when i stopped for gas in santa rosa and said see you stopped in santa rosa, are you getting to tried to ride. by that time i was on the bike for 15 hours. I took this snapshot of this track several hours after i got home. Only bummer is i can only look at a track for the past 24 hours. I wish i could of had trac for entire trip or had my wife take a snap shot of the track every day.the tracker post my lat , long, alt, direction, and speed , it reports every 60 seconds (it used ham radio freq 144.390 pretty cool.

The windshild is  a clearview the big one 22 inch. but a 22 inch clearview i the same hight as  17-18 memphis shade not near as tall as a 21in memphis shade, but works much better. not much buffetting off the tank, and the recurve will send the air up high over my head than the 21 shade did.

    track last few hours

I've driven that road, and wanted to ride it one day but never did.  I used to go from a mill in Snowflake over to Eagar/Springerville then to Morenci then over to Silver City, then to El Paso with a few stops along the way, then freeway back to Tucson, then home to Phoenix.  The only part of the drive I ever looked forward to was 191 south, the rest was ugly and boring.  You are a lucky man, that has to be a great motorcycle road (and yes dangerous too!).
