Is the perfect PC install required for the latest PCIII USB units?

I have serached for this extensively but can't find any clear yes or no to this question. If you buy the latest PCIII USB module right now, do you still need to do the re-wiring for the digital ground and TPS like the older PWIII units?

I really, really tried to find this on my own through searching but there isn't any concrete resolution to this question. If it is out there and I couldn't find it, my apologies in advance for posting this.

    1. No it will work fine as the directions on the PC3 state to install it.. Oliver just made it better with his Perfect PC3 install.. Think of it as digital tv VS HDTV. Olivers way just makes it better..

Mine would fluctuate @ idle and had the scotch-lok by the tps. (PCIII was on the bike when I got it.)  A little water or S-2000 cleaner on the wire and corrosion can set in.  It took about 45 minutes total to perfect reinstall it. I didn't cut any wires, just strip back insulation solder in PC III wires and cover the wires with heat shrink. I use the stuff from Lowes that is awesome. Wires come ot of the connector by pushing the white lock in the conector upwards or perpendicular to the wires. Wires slide out the back of the connector.

Don't mean to hijack the post. But I have been wondering the same thing. And I don't think it was answered yet. Does the new pcIII installed normally, work as well as the old pcIII with the perfect install.

I asked this same question a while back and I don't think some of the older members realize the new units have a different wiring harness on them. I suppose someone who has a new style unit that has been dynoed could tell us. I need to get mine dynoed soon. I will let you know I just did the plug and play of the new unit. Seems to run fine with a members map installed.

Thanks. I will be ordering mine in a couple day. It would be nice to know if I need to do the perfect install or not.

Based on my search, I think it is fairly known the new harness is different. But since those with the older PCIII have already established they need the perfect install and frankly don't care to know if the new ones do or not (who can blame them- not their problem).

What I think we (who are new and thus buying the lastest PCIII) all want to know- is there someone who did the plug and play and found the perfect install to have made a big or needed improvement on the newest PCIII USB?

I have the new version and did the regular install. Mine is functioning just fine with no fluctuation.

I asked the same question in a post last sunday night. Did not get a really clear answer, so I completed the regualr install. My throttle position reading is rock steady. I called DynoJet the next day to ask, anf the tech I spoke with said they were aware of the issues that caused people to do the "perfect install". He said they were re-designing some of the harnessses. When I told him that the digital ground no longer connected the the common ground, that it no goes down to the TPS connector, he said that they must have updated it. I'm going to keep an eye on things for now....

I got my PCIII about a year ago. I don't know if it is the older or newer version, but when I went to install it per DynoJet instructions the wire connector cut the wire completely. I guess I didn't install it properly. So I soldered the wire back together, heat shrinked and taped it and started over using the Perfect Install instructions. This worked great and my bike is running nicely.

Sounds to me that the new harness makes it so the extra work for the "perfect" install is not necessary.

My question is: How do you know if you got the "new" harness?  I just received mine from Phat's and don't know the difference from the old to the new harness.  I know mine is "new", but, it could have been sitting on a shelf somewhere for the past 2 yrs.

Take a picture of it with the connectors and post it up. We'll tell you.

NIL8U and I both got our PCIIIs at the same time only a couple months ago from the same distributor. His had the old harness and mine had the new one. We did the perfect install on both of them because we wanted to hide the unsightly WHITE connectors that would stick out on the right side of the bike. I am guessing mine would have worked fine without doing the perfect install though. Dont see why not.
