The Dunlop 240 Elite 3 tire will not visually fit snug to the 18 x 8-1/2" weld-up rim on the beauty face.

Spend the additional money for the Metzler 240 Wink

    Re: dunlop tire

As said before by Alan, the Dunlop Elite III 240 will not snug up to the edge of the rim. I'm not fond of the look but I've had no problems with it. If you want the Dunlop Elite III 240, it will look much better on an 8" rim. Now I have a couple of questions.

On an 8-1/2" rim how much more clearance is there with the Avon 250 or Dunlop Elite III 250 instead of the Metz 260?

    Re: dunlop tire

With some help, I found the answer to my question about 260 tire widths.

    Metz:     10.197 on a 9.5" rim

    Dunlop:   10.02  on a 9" rim

    Avon:       9.921 on a 9" rim

    PS: Thanks Alan!

for the money what would you recommend? the elite III is quite a bit cheaper but how about the longevity?

    Re: dunlop tire

Alan is correct and I'm sure he recommends an 18 x 8" wheel for the Dunlop Elite III (240). It's your best choice if you don't want to go to the expense of a Metzeler. From what I've read the Dunlops last a bit longer than the Metz. I've had great luck with them.

I have the Elite 3 240, now, and the tire's great.  But, I'll be replacing my Elite 3 with a Metzler when the time comes.  I just can't stand the gap between the rim and tire.  The odd thing is, the Dunlop 250 is wider than the Metz 260, but the Dunlop 240 is noticeably narrower than the Metzler 240!

    Re: dunlop tire

I hear you Ray. I'm actually thinking about selling my rear wheel and having an 8" one done. I really like the Dunlop and hate to part with it. It's either that or have the swingarm reworked and go Dunlop 250. Only one thing holding me back. According to the Dunlop specs the 240 has 3/8" tread and the 250 has 1/4". I'd hope this is a misprint.
