  • No Political Discussions

After many years of consideration, the Administrator and Moderators of RSWarrior have decided that we will no longer allow Political topics or Political Posts of any kind on the site. This topic has been a thorn in our sides for a very long time. We came very near to pulling political discussion 3 years ago and decided, at the time, to let it go on with strict rules on personal attacks and bashing other members. For a little while (very little while) it got better. Over the last 2+ years it has got progressively worse to where it is today and no amount of warnings or threat locking seem to make a difference.

We have always made every effort to make this site a pleasant place to come to and post and chat with others about their bikes and just about anything else. Until now, our only exclusion has been pornography. Unfortunately it has become increasingly evident that discussing politics in a civil manner is just not something we are capable of doing. For that reason any new topics or individual posts that are related to politics in any way will be immediately removed. We will also be going through past posts to locate political topics and remove them as well. Please keep in mind that we have been around for 8 years, this June, and we have accumulated over 188,000 topics with nearly one million posts, so there is no way we are going to find them all. As we come across older political topics they will be removed, as we see them. Just because we removed one and missed another does not mean we are showing favoritism, it just means we haven't found it yet. If you see a political topic, feel free to let us know. You can simply hit the "Report abuse" link at the bottom of each post that you find

This rule will pertain to whole topics of a political nature and to individual posts that may be placed in a non political topic. It will also cover your signatures as well. As far as what constitutes a political post, I think we are all intelligent enough to figure that out. But in case you are not, here are a few examples, if it has to do with a president, senator, congressman, legislation, liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Independent, government intern, paige, or even the janitor at the White House, it will be removed. Discussions of a socioeconomic nature, such as welfare, social security, SSI, or any kind of government aide will also be considered in the realm of politics. Gun control, world politics and economics fall into this list as well. You can talk about your guns all you want, but when you get into laws regarding possession of your firearms, you have crossed the line. As you can see, I could go on and on and still not be able to list all the possible examples. This list is by no means comprehensive and it will ultimately be up to the discretion of the Moderators and Admin as to what is and is not political. Any new post or topic that violates this rule will be immediately removed and the member who posted it will be subject to our three strike rule. There will be no discussion or debate on this topic or on any of our decisions as to what is in violation. There are plenty of places on the net to go to and bicker about politics, this motorcycle forum is no longer one of them. If you you are concerned that what you want to post may not conform to our rules, as before, please email or PM a Moderator and ask them.

The three strike rule can be found in the rules for our site. There is also a link to the rules at the bottom of every page on this site. They have been in effect for a long time, if you're not familiar with them, maybe you ought to read them. As always ignorance of the rules does not make you immune to the consequences. This new rule has been added to the existing rules and the "Anything Goes Forum" is now called the "Anything Goes... well almost" with a sub-heading of No Porn and No Politics. If this new rule causes you to no longer have anything worthwhile contribute to this site, we fully understand and we wish you the best.

  • The Buck Stops Here

Yes. I am to blame. I know many vendors have PM'ed and Emailed me and I was the one not following through. I am trying to fix that. I want to try to get this back on track.

That being said, I have already begun to wip the "Marketplace" of rswarrior into shape.

    • You should see that classified and vendor section of the site have some changes; more should be expected.
    • I have a very basic "Advertise" page with a contact form that ties directly into my shiny new CRM.
    • Certain members already have their "Vendor Badge" you will see more of this
    • I am hoping to get official monthly giveaways back!
    • Vendor Portal for immediate modifications to your advertising campaign
I ask that all members who have emailed, or PM'ed, me to please submit the contact form on the advertise page. I realize this is frustrating for you since I am the one who never followed up, but I would love to try out the new CRM ;)

  • Proper Tagging

There is a huge feature of this site that has been disabled because people have been missusing it. The feature I am referring to is Post Tagging in forum posts. I have just turned this feature on (in the Warrior Forums) in the hopes people will begin to use it properly as this can be a huge benefit in locating information you need.

    What a tag isn't?
A tag is not a spot for you to enter in your signature line. It isn't a spot to enter in some funny quote. It isn't a spot to say something like "warrior."

    What is a tag?
Tags are like keywords or labels that you add to a post to make it easier to find later. You can tag a post with phrases like "2002 TPS Recall." Later if you look for information of the TPS recall, you can just click that tag and get all posts that have been tagged that way.

What is the difference between searching and posting?

    • A search will return posts where the computer finds your term in the body of the post.
    • A tag search will return posts where humans explicitly associate a term to a post

    How will Tag's help me?
Once all members are in the habit of tagging their posts the "Tag Cloud" will start to populate with keywords. The tag cloud is in the right column of the Forum titled "Popular Tags." Once you click a "tag" it will take you to a listing of all posts tagged to that term.

    Tags Dumbified
For this site I have made it so that people cannot enter in their own tags in forum posts. You must use the "Chose Tags" button to select some predefined tags.

Example. This post is tagged to "Help" and "New Site" as shown below. If you click on a tag it will take you to a list of all other related posts.

I hope this feature works out and people start using it as it should. If it is used properly I can enable it site wide and make it so that people can enter in their own tags.

  • RSWarrior.com Needs a Few Good Men

    RSWarrior.com Needs Help!!!

As many of you have noticed rswarrior.com has been on a slow decline in many aspects. [:'(] Certain areas of the site have been neglected, but today I am hoping we can turn that around. I have a dream that one day the "Warrior of the Month" section will be filled with pages of well written prose and overflowing with professional photos. The PCIII maps will be available for all to use and other user content will be easily accessible!

While I doubt it will be that good, I do believe it can get better than its current state!

I think I owe you all some insight as to why the site has become my red headed stepchild... This site started as a fun side project for me in 2002 when my day job was all but challenging and my life as a 24 year old was fun and games. Fast forward 6+ years... my job is challenging and time consuming. My life has gone from drinking copious amounts of beer to changing my 3 month old son's diapers.

When this site started it had a very tight nit group of moderators (geestar, DarkStar and Sangathor) and we have added two as time went on (billh1943 and JPWarrior) . Geestar and billh1943 haven’t been seen from in years. JPWarrior and Sangathor, while both very dedicated to the site have been busy with their own lives. That leaves DarkStar; the concrete that holds this site up. He has stepped up to the tasks that I have left to the wayside. However, he too, has expressed interest in selling his Warrior and moving back to Delphi.

    Here is my plan.

    1. I need a few good men (or women) who are interested in becoming volunteer moderators for various sections of the site.
      This person will:
      • Need to be active on the site on a daily basis
      • Be familiar with the forum software
      • Be an upstanding member with no prior history of complaints
      • Almost all forums are needing mod's. (classifieds, general bike talk, anything goes, all warrior forums) Each mod would get a forum.
    2. I am looking to have 1-2 moderators specific to each "Ride Club." The Ride Club areas have traditionally been overlooked by moderators. I think this has always been ok, but I would like to see a person who is very active in their area take charge of their forum.Same requirements as above.
    3. A couple of people who are interested in maintaining the Warrior of the Month section. (People who have helped with this in the past would be welcomed!)
This person would require being able to perform the following:
      • Dedicate a 1-3 hours a month to this task.
      • Create a poll in the Forum to tally votes
      • Write, in proper English, a few paragraph description of the winner’s bike.
      • Be comfortable with this site’s gallery software.
    4. Any other ideas that you may have to better help rswarrior.com
      • Are you a graphic artist that wants to help the design?
      • Etc…

So, “why would I want to volunteer my time for rswarrior.com” you ask? Good question.
If you are passionate about the Warrior and want to help the community this may be for you. You will be criticized by members and have your inbox flooded with requests for help. However, you will get the pride knowing you helped a few people out. Cool

If you are interested, please send me an email with a description of how you think you can help rswarrior.com, why you are a good candidate, and how much time you can spend.

    Thanks!
    Sean

  • The history of Eletrik

I don't think I have ever done this in the six year history of the site, but then again, this site has never seen a character such as "The Smack." Here is an email he sent me after his suspension from the site.

    For those who don't know:
Eletrik was a positive member on the site for some time! He was doing some cool stuff to his Warrior and sharing with the community. That is what it's all about! However, one day, he posts up on his "hybrid warrior" modification. Things got ugly... other members started flaming him, he started attacking members, moderators tried cleaning up the mess. He posts more copies of his posts (called SPAMing), which then led to moderator editing of posts. Emails were sent and I hoped all could play nice. Wrong. He starts sending PM's to members and moderators flaming them all. Not good. I suspended his account until things could be resolved, then I get this email...

    For the record:
I never commented on his project and I won't now.

"My word" that he is referring to is that I said he could have his post on the site... and it is. The post remains and will not be pulled down: http://rswarrior.com/forums/t/117509.aspx

I "reca'nize" that this guy is a total narcissist with an inaccurate view of what the world owes him.

I see you have 86ed me from the forum.  I complied with your requests, yet the harassment did not stop.  No apology was offered for the inappropriate behavior from you moderators.  My posts were unjustifiably locked and removed.  I did not advertise or spam - I did what any other member who performed a cool mod would do - I shared it with the group.  This was never about sales or marketing.  I have plenty of both and I don't need to spam or scam for it.  All my sales are word of mouth.

Yeah, I am actually that good and my design works that well.  When you invent something that works as good and for the right reasons as what I did, it feeds itself.  No need to spam anyone.  As a business person yourself, you ought to be able to grasp that, and in doing so realize that you were wrong about me.  The reason I kept reposting was personal.  No one orders me around, and no one controls me.  This was a battle I was going to fight to the bitter end.  I knew this would be the outcome, because there was no way I could be beaten down.  The only way to stop the Smack is to pull the plug.

You renigged on your word.  You let the moderators screw with my posts even after you said I could post about my mod.  In doing so, you support the minority of your members who were either to stupid or jealous to react in a mature manner.  Choosing instead to hurl insults my way.  But none of that phased or stopped me.  See, I take no crap from no man on this earth.  No one insults me and no one disrespects me - EVER.  Anyone crossing my path gets smacked down quick.  This is the way it should be - since I have done NOTHING wrong and NOTHING to deserve the kind of treatment your moderators and members demonstrated.

By deleting my membership, you do not win.  I am not defeated.  Censorship is not victory.  By squashing my right to speak, you only underscore the narrow minded, uneducated, neanderthol mindset your forum has.  I will continue on with my awesome bike and my successful design with or without your forum.  Since I used my Warrior as a proof of concept platform, I thought it only fitting to talk about it.  I expected other Warrior riders would be proud that their bike stands as a vehicle to progress this technology.  Just because some of your apelike members and moderators could not comprehend the technology does not give them the right to enforce Hitler tactics.

Your loss.   My extraordinary skills and talents are better appreciated  by those who actually passed the 6th grade.  So now that I understand you are NOT a man of your word, and what you say does not necessarily back what you do - I am glad to be rid of the stress.  The horrible conduct of your group was extremely upsetting to me and it is just as well I leave you all to your own bitter stew.

So screw you, Sean - you and your group.  As hydrogen technology takes a hold of the entire planet over the next decade (watch the news and reca'nize), just remember how an honest and creative guy tried to open your eyes to it and you all just shat in his face.  You will eventually feel sorry for the horrid way you treated someone who tried to help and educate you.  I will be taking apologies from over egotistical, unjustified, and uneducated fools at the door.  I'll try not to rub it in too much.

BTW, I have 10,000 hits every month on my site.  That's 1,200,000 hits a year.  That's a lot of people checking out hydrogen technology.  Not customers, just people wanting to learn more.  A lot of eyes.  I will be smashing and bashing your forum (in typical Smack fashion) enthusiastically in my videos (which have tens of thousands of viewers as well) and on my site.  I'm going to tell those 1,200,000 people visiting each year how you and your moderators attempted censorship of me and the technology in the most fascist, unamerican manner possible.  I will tell them about the homosexual edits in my posts by your moderators, and the attempt at control and silence with the locking and deletion of my threads.  My audience is worldwide, and I will tell them all how you treated me.  By worldwide, I mean every single continent on the planet with an internet connection.  Look at the counter.  People all over are going to know how the Smack was disrespected.  After all I have done and freely given to you all.  You ungrateful P.O.S.

I didn't even mention the other forums I'm involved with online.  Tens and thousands of people who DO respect me who will learn about the decrepit way you run your little hole-in-the-wall forum.  You are an embarrassment to this country, and to everything built on the foundations of integrity.  Your breach of word and unethical censorship will be known throughout the land.

    You will reca'nize.  Know this.

    Smack.

  • How to Search RSWarrior.com

This information, and more, is available at http://docs.communityserver.org/wiki/page.aspx/187/enterprise-search/

    Terms

A query is broken up into terms and operators. There are two types of terms: Single Terms and Phrases.

A Single Term is a single word such as "test" or "hello".

A Phrase is a group of words surrounded by double quotes such as "hello dolly".

Multiple terms can be combined together with Boolean operators to form a more complex query (see below).

    Note

The analyzer used to create the index will be used on the terms and phrases in the query string. So it is important to choose an analyzer that will not interfere with the terms used in the query string.

    Fields

Lucene supports fielded data. When performing a search you can either specify a field, or use the default field. The field names and default field is implementation specific.

You can search any field by typing the field name followed by a colon ":" and then the term you are looking for.

As an example, let's assume a Lucene index contains two fields, title and text and text is the default field. If you want to find the document entitled "The Right Way" which contains the text "don't go this way", you can enter:

     title:"The Right Way" AND text:go

    or

     title:"Do it right" AND right

Since text is the default field, the field indicator is not required.

    Note

The field is only valid for the term that it directly precedes, so the query

     title:Do it right

Will only find "Do" in the title field. It will find "it" and "right" in the default field (in this case the text field).

    Term Modifiers

Lucene supports modifying query terms to provide a wide range of searching options.

    Wildcard Searches

Lucene supports single and multiple character wildcard searches.

To perform a single character wildcard search use the "?" symbol.

To perform a multiple character wildcard search use the "*" symbol.

The single character wildcard search looks for terms that match that with the single character replaced. For example, to search for "text" or "test" you can use the search:

     te?t

Multiple character wildcard searches looks for 0 or more characters. For example, to search for test, tests or tester, you can use the search:

     test*

You can also use the wildcard searches in the middle of a term.

     te*t
    Note

You cannot use a * or ? symbol as the first character of a search.

    Fuzzy Searches

Lucene supports fuzzy searches based on the Levenshtein Distance, or Edit Distance algorithm. To do a fuzzy search use the tilde, "~", symbol at the end of a Single word Term. For example to search for a term similar in spelling to "roam" use the fuzzy search:

     roam~

This search will find terms like foam and roams.

Starting with Lucene 1.9 an additional (optional) parameter can specify the required similarity. The value is between 0 and 1, with a value closer to 1 only terms with a higher similarity will be matched. For example:

     roam~0.8

The default that is used if the parameter is not given is 0.5.

    Proximity Searches

Lucene supports finding words are a within a specific distance away. To do a proximity search use the tilde, "~", symbol at the end of a Phrase. For example to search for a "apache" and "jakarta" within 10 words of each other in a document use the search:

     "jakarta apache"~10

    Range Searches

Range Queries allow one to match documents whose field(s) values are between the lower and upper bound specified by the Range Query. Range Queries can be inclusive or exclusive of the upper and lower bounds. Sorting is done lexicographically.

     mod_date:[20020101 TO 20030101]

This will find documents whose mod_date fields have values between 20020101 and 20030101, inclusive. Note that Range Queries are not reserved for date fields. You could also use range queries with non-date fields:

     title:{Aida TO Carmen}

This will find all documents whose titles are between Aida and Carmen, but not including Aida and Carmen.

Inclusive range queries are denoted by square brackets. Exclusive range queries are denoted by curly brackets.

    Boosting a Term

Lucene provides the relevance level of matching documents based on the terms found. To boost a term use the caret, "^", symbol with a boost factor (a number) at the end of the term you are searching. The higher the boost factor, the more relevant the term will be.

Boosting allows you to control the relevance of a document by boosting its term. For example, if you are searching for

     jakarta apache

and you want the term "jakarta" to be more relevant boost it using the ^ symbol along with the boost factor next to the term. You would type:

     jakarta^4 apache

This will make documents with the term jakarta appear more relevant. You can also boost Phrase Terms as in the example:

     "jakarta apache"^4 "Apache Lucene"

By default, the boost factor is 1. Although the boost factor must be positive, it can be less than 1 (e.g. 0.2)

    Boolean operators

Boolean operators allow terms to be combined through logic operators. Lucene supports AND, "+", OR, NOT and "-" as Boolean operators(Note: Boolean operators must be ALL CAPS).

    OR

The OR operator is the default conjunction operator. This means that if there is no Boolean operator between two terms, the OR operator is used. The OR operator links two terms and finds a matching document if either of the terms exist in a document. This is equivalent to a union using sets. The symbol || can be used in place of the word OR.

To search for documents that contain either "jakarta apache" or just "jakarta" use the query:

     "jakarta apache" jakarta

    or

     "jakarta apache" OR jakarta

    AND

The AND operator matches documents where both terms exist anywhere in the text of a single document. This is equivalent to an intersection using sets. The symbol && can be used in place of the word AND.

To search for documents that contain "jakarta apache" and "Apache Lucene" use the query:

     "jakarta apache" AND "Apache Lucene"

    +

The " " or required operator requires that the term after the " " symbol exist somewhere in a the field of a single document.

To search for documents that must contain "jakarta" and may contain "lucene" use the query:

     +jakarta apache

    NOT

The NOT operator excludes documents that contain the term after NOT. This is equivalent to a difference using sets. The symbol ! can be used in place of the word NOT.

To search for documents that contain "jakarta apache" but not "Apache Lucene" use the query:

     "jakarta apache" NOT "Apache Lucene"
    Note

The NOT operator cannot be used with just one term. For example, the following search will return no results:

     NOT "jakarta apache"

    -

The " - " or prohibit operator excludes documents that contain the term after the " - " symbol.

To search for documents that contain "jakarta apache" but not "Apache Lucene" use the query:

     "jakarta apache" -"Apache Lucene"

    Grouping

Lucene supports using parentheses to group clauses to form sub queries. This can be very useful if you want to control the boolean logic for a query.

To search for either "jakarta" or "apache" and "website" use the query:

     (jakarta OR apache) AND website

This eliminates any confusion and makes sure you that website must exist and either term jakarta or apache may exist.

    Field Grouping

Lucene supports using parentheses to group multiple clauses to a single field.

To search for a title that contains both the word "return" and the phrase "pink panther" use the query:

     title:(+return +"pink panther")

the following is a list of fields defined in CS2 Enterprise Search:

     body
    rawbody
    role
    url
    link
    name
    app
    sectionid
    postid
    date
    user
    userid
    title
    settingsid
    applicationtype
    applicationkey
    groupid
    parentid
    threadid
    exact
    attachmentname
    attachmenttext
    tag
    tagkeyword

    Escaping Special Characters

Lucene supports escaping special characters that are part of the query syntax. The current list special characters are

    + - && || ! ( ) { } ^ " ~ * ? : \

To escape these character use the \ before the character. For example to search for (1+1):2 use the query:

     \(1\+1\)\:2

For multiple word searches without "and" "or" or "not", "OR" is assumed by default.

Searching now searches for near matches in post bodies, attachment names, titles, author name, tags and index-able attachments; additionally it searches for exact matches in the Category/Tag, Author Name, and SectionName fields without requiring additional syntax (Although it still supports the advanced syntax, which might make specific data easier to find) (currently all fields searched have equal weight, which could make searching on a common term, especially one used in a tag difficult, as lucene will score matches higher if they occur in a short field)

  • Site Supporters Overview

RSWarrior.com will continue to be a free resource for information on Star Cycles' Yamaha Warrior. Like everything else on the new site, the supporter system has changed as well. Donations for this site are typically done through PayPal and are made to any of the volunteer Moderators as well as the Administrator.

Lets view a comparison between the old site and new site.

    Old Site:
You needed to donate within the current calendar year in order to get your year specific badge. Once the January 1st rolled around everyone lost their badges.

Example, say you donate $20 on 12/25/2008. You will get your 2008 badge, but it will be gone on 1/1/2009 at which point you would have nothing.

    New Site:
There are no year specific badges. There is one "Site Supporter" badge that will last for one year from the date of donation.

Example, say you donate $20 on 12/25/2008. You will get your Site Supporter badge and keep it until 12/26/2009, at which point you will have nothing.

    New Bonus Features:

The new system adds extra levels of support!

    • For members who donate up to $24.99 within one year (and lifetime total not exceeding $50) you will get your "Site Supporter" badge.
    • For members who donate $25-$49.99 within one year (and lifetime total not exceeding $50) you will get your "Silver Supporter" badge.
    • For members who have donated $50 or more over the course of the sites history you will receive a "Gold Supporter" Badge!

    Lets run some examples:

    Long Time Member

    • You donated $10 on 1/1/2006.
